awesome-oss-alternatives's Issues

Unfortunately, Modulz repo is not a tool but "An open-source UI component library" and it was acquired recently

Hi! I love what you guys are doing at RunaCapital, it helps drive awareness towards great OSS tools. I'm in the design space so I'm curious about anything relevant on that field (other than Penpot, of course). Modulz is listed as an alternative to Figma but the repo you link is about open UI components, sort of a designers toolkit, but not a tool. Their tool would be this one https://www.modulz.app/ but it has never released any alpha or beta and very recently they announced they had been acquired by WorkOS https://www.modulz.app/blog/modulz-acquired-by-workos. It doesn't look very good for the future of that tool.
I would suggest you change the description for Modulz. Do you need a specific pull-request or will you do it yourselves?

Add authorizer.dev

Hi,

I am the creator of authorizer.dev, open-source authentication and authorization solution. It was the product of the day on product hunt and is at 194 stars as of today.

It is an open-source alternative auth0 with the following features

  • Bring your database and own the user data
  • Supports all SQL databases, MongoDB, ArangoDB, and more to come in future
  • Uses Graphql as the technology and built using Golang.
  • It supports multiple auth recipes (social media log in, basic auth, magic link login)
  • Role based access management
  • Secure session management
  • Multiple deployment options. Also comes with a lot of one-click deployment options which takes away the pain of managing infra.

Addition

HI, I run an open source ticketing/helpdesk system.

Could i add this too the list?

Add Swetrix then it reaches 100 stars

Keeping the code for Swetrix entry here to add it when repo reaches 100 stars

Missing the Code of Conduct

This project is currently missing the Code of Conduct in the root branch. If you want to add the Code of Conduct, then I would submit a PR for that. Please let me know what do you think about that.

Thank you for including Coolify!

Hey, Andras here, maker of Coolify.

Thank you for including it on this list. It means a lot! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™

Keep up the excellent work!

(You can close this issue. I just want to let you know about this!๐Ÿ™‚)

Issue and PR templates

Context

As a new user interested to create issues or wanting to add a new alternative to this repository, I must rely on the README provided, which is great, but I may rush and forget conditions for the solution to be added.

Solution

  • Add an issue template in order to enforce users to respect a
  • Add an PR template for people wanting to propose a new alternative with ticking boxes with criterias asked in the README :

Funding

I can handle this (short) issue is this is validated

Its product is strongly based on an open-source repo
It has a well-known closed-source competitor, solving a similar business problem
It is a private for-profit company, founded in the last 10 years
Its repo has 100+ stars on GitHub

Broken links

Hello, I found some broken hyperlinks:

Specify OSS License

Would be nice to list the actual license these services use on their software.

Many of the listed projects/start-up are not Open Source

Hi! Just had a scan through the project list and noticed many of these are generally not considered to be "Open Source" as per the common definition.

  • FusionAuth - Can't find any significant open source offering.
  • Tracardi - Applies commons clause.
  • Chaskiq - Applies commons clause.
  • Gravitl (netmaker) - SSPL License.
  • Lunatrace - Very mixed, Large portions BSL (Including lunatrace portion)
  • Airbyte - Defaults to Elastic License 2.
  • Memgraph - Mixed BSL and custom enterprise.
  • Graylog - SSPL.
  • Outline - BSL.
  • Sentry - BSL.
  • Uptrace - BSL.
  • Castled - Can't find any significant open source offering.
  • OpenReplay - Elastic License 2.
  • N8N - Sustainable Use License.

I think all the BSL licenses were backed by Open Source licenses, making them a bit of a grey area, but in many cases, applying your 10-year start-up window, it does mean that the source be be non-Open-Source for half that 10 year time, then somewhat outdated for the remainder.

Is this project active?

Hi all.

I want to help, but I want to know if this project is active. Is this project active?

take a step back, is this following awesome guidelines?

despite the egalitarian ethos of open source, every author who sees this is going to push a PR, and the list is growing to the degree where i have unsubscribed.

is there a criterion for awesomeness besides competing with commercial licensed products presumably to bring in some dough by consulting and integration as an open source provider?

Add Vikunja

Hi, founder of Vikunja here.

Vikunja is a project management / to-do list application, replacing tools like trello, todoist, asana, etc. We have a for-profit SaaS version available called Vikunja Cloud.

I would love to add the project to the list, however, it does not have 100+ stars on a single repo. Main reason is probably we don't primarily use github for code, we're only mirroring the code here. If you squint a bit, you could count the stars of the frontend and api repos as one, which would push it over the 100 stars requirement.

Just putting this up for discussion, any way to add Vikunja to the list? Or should I rather wait until we hit the 100+ stars for a single repo here on github?

Plivo?

Why is Plivo on this list? I see nothing on their website to suggest they are an open source alternative. They are a SaaS business.
