Looking briefly at your code, it seems metadata is to be saved to a separate interface. Please consider using ZFS's own properties for SR specific metadata. ZFS allows reading and writing user defined properties and may be inherited. See User Dataset Properties; this also works with ZOL.

The first and foremost advantage is that all properties are visible through a single point of entry: ZFS. These properties will also be presented to users not aware of eventual SR membership.
