Bootstrap

A brew tap designed to make it easy to bootstrap a new mac.

What's included?

Installation

Before Installing

Please backup all of your data. You may even want to try it out in a VM before applying to your personal machine.

This software works great for me, but it comes with no promises. Use at your own risk!

Run the installer

You will be prompted for passwords

curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rphan/homebrew-bootstrap/master/bootstrap.sh | bash

If you don't have an Apple ID or would simply like to skip installing App Store apps at this time, set the following variable before installing.

export SKIP_MAS=1 ; curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rphan/homebrew-bootstrap/master/bootstrap.sh | bash

Detect if user already has dotfiles that would be clobbered
Offer to back them up

Document workflow for customization

I want to make sure the bootstrap process is easy and seamless so I won't be pushing for forking out of the box.

It is unlikely a user will need to fork the bootstrap repo unless they wish to contribute.

It is very likely a user will need to fork the dotfiles repo.

Factor out only the absolute requirements from dotfiles.
Assert bootstrap works with only the minimal set.
Document workflow for adding personal touches.
