You're right, the only way to use it is with overriding "commitMessage": "Release %s" in a local .release.json file. Is that OK or do you really need it from CLI?

@webpro I would! Ideally I'd be able to write the commit message in so that I'm keeping track of the changes and I know whats happening in the code. The tags can mark the version. I understand that it shifts things around for you in your conf process, ideally I'd like the reverse, or for that conf to be specific per project (perhaps an addon to package.json). I'm answering yes to everything and it's super inconvenient, all I really want is release -m "better code" and done.
