typology-map-data's Issues

Epipelagic map

Maps in M2 were made using bathymetry. For M2.1 and M2.2 the depth threshold include continental areas (Black and Caspian seas, Great lakes in USA). Need to fix this!

Fix vector layers

A couple of vector layer have problems when transformed to topojson, specially if they involve arctic regions. Need to repeat the export with adjusted parameters or use raster layers to avoid this problem.
Also, some layers get distorted when proyected, might need to change format or create buffers in the final projection to avoid distortion

Photo caption alignment

@tmfrnz quick question re photo captions: some are left-aligned, e.g. T2.4, M1.6, while most are right-aligned. Has the alignment been changed somewhere for these - can I change them individually? or is it a bug?

Map colors

Some layers were exported with the profile colors (red and yellow) instead of the web page colors (dark and pale red).
Need to fix the export from GRASS and upload again to mapbox.

Replace layers for analyse section

Recommendations from colleagues of IUCN in China:

  • Changing Taiwan’s name to Taiwan, Province of China
  • would it be possible also to change the line between mainland and Taiwan from solid to dotted?
  • also, the marine borders on the map between China, DPRK, ROK and Japan are virtually middle lines of two coasts. Those borders have never been developed/agreed

Also:

Check that Disclaimer on frontiers and national boundaries is properly displayed in the analyse section.

Disclaimer text: The designation of geographical entities on this website do not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of The Global Ecosystem Typology, IUCN or other participating organisations concerning the legal status of any country, territory, or area, or of its authorities, or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries.

Problem with TEOW maps exported from postgis

  • SF2.2.web.orig_v2.0_topo.json and SF2.2.IM.orig_2.0.json are wrong
  • T3.1 mostly ok, but missing small area in Florida, prob due to simplification steps
  • T3.4 also some areas missing in Asia, prob due to processing steps
  • T6.2 looks like T6.1

(edited: added checklist)

Map resolution

Some maps were aggregated to coarser resolution in order to highlight localised distribution in the profile maps, they are too coarse for the interactive navigation, so we need to replace them with the original (30 arc sec) resolution, and if necessary add an auxiliary layer for highlighting their location.
