What FP libraries do you use in JS?

Hi Reginald,

I'm a big fan your books. I'm curious what FP libraries you use when programming JS these days, particularly when you want to use things like the State monad.

Even more specifically, I'm looking for something that allows me to write business transaction logic in a stateless way, similar to the callsheet gem in ruby. I'd love any recommendations.

Thanks,
Jonah

What aspects of your life have been most influential on your career?

I love hearing about people's life experiences and how it shapes the way they think about software development and technology. In my experience, the best developers typically have a mastery of something other than software / technology, in addition to software / technology (though, not always).

What aspects of your life have been most influential on your career, and the way you approach software development?

How do you make open-source decisions?

(I guess if you want to write about making decisions in general, I'd be interested to read about that, too.)

I don't think I've read enough about how people make solid decisions in this area. Some specific example questions (sort of redundant, but the idea is just to flesh out the subject I'm interested in hearing about):

  • How to choose which open-source alternative to depend on? (— and I don't mean "Which JS frameworks do you prefer?" but rather "Given a few options to solve some particular problem, how do you decide which one to go with?")
  • How to decide whether a project is "well-maintained" enough to depend on? (— activity, issue count, response time, code quality by your own standards, etc.)
  • When is it best to write your own thing instead of trusting anyone else to do the work for you?
  • Does corporate support for a project matter, one way or the other?

You know, stuff like that. I'd like to read anything you want to write about the subject.

How about trying github package registery to host your js libraries

Hi Reginald,

Thank you for your answer on my last issue (guessing it's on twitter and I understand that it takes time to answer your AMAs), I think we can't shutt it down because not sure until I finish the translation (in french only) which is something not easy in fact when done alone

So here is my second issue now about your javascript libraries that am also interested in studying them

@getify is starting to use GitHub Package Registery, so are you going to do the same thing
here is the link https://twitter.com/getify/status/1155870255912300550?s=20

Cheers and thx a lot for your help in my translations

How Do You Learn?

Of course this is a super open ended question but, that is kind of the point. How have these methods morphed and changed over the years and perhaps do you always look at yourself as an apprentice (as in how Hoover/Oshineye describes it) or perhaps something else?

Thanks again for doing this!

What about trying a French translation of your books ?

Hi,

First of all, I want to thank you for all the excellent work you've done and that can be found easily here on your GitHub account that is helping me a lot to improve my skills in Javascript

It's been some time I am working with your books (online versions on leanpub until i get some cash here with my work in GitHub) and as i have more time now to focus on them, I have started to follow you on twitter after some days working on a translation in french of Javascript Allongé (not the six edition but the older one that is allowed to be remixed)

https://github.com/nazimboudeffa/javascript-rallonge

The question is : Not only the title of this issue, but also why your sites are not available ? for instance allong.es and ristrettolo.gy or are they only js libraries named with a domain as in fact ristrettolo.gy seems to have an http:// before in the repo description

PS : I really like the images you're using in the books, I am really inspired by the concept
