redhat-2.6.32-kernel-patches's Introduction

Why?

Because life is too short to wait on Redhat to incorporate sweet kernel changes and improvements and because we love the redhat stock kernel :-).

The patches can be used to create new custom RPMs.

How?

I maintain a separate git tree which is commited with every new redhat kernel release, I backport the vanilla upstream patch directly to this tree and generate a diff patch which is then uploaded to this tree. Each patch is set to be used by itself and refer to a single purpose. It may however happen that dependencies are created through multiple patches, if so, the commit message will contain a special instruction.

It can happen that:

  • Not all changes from upstream are incorporated
  • That some structure within the redhat stock kernel are modified to adjust to new declarations within the vanilla stack (i.e: network, fs etc.)

Commits:

  • Messages will refer to which initial kernel version, the diff patch was generated against (just for ref)
  • Patches may be altered to reflect new redhat minior revision releases (so read the commits for the patch you are interested in)

Warning

Even though I test every upstream patch I backport and ensure usability and performance, use at your own risks.
