This looks like just what I am looking for. A tree of pub/sub topics.

Only I worry that it is out of date. 2016 is the last update. Has much changed since then. Does it work? Would it be hard to make current?

When I look at the other packages. ZeroMQ does a tree by characters. Great for stock symbols. MQTT really just does a list of strings, not a proper tree. This seems to be the only one that really does trees.

Are there any other packages I should consider?

I experienced some serious memory leaks on Raspbian and Ubuntu 18.04 while publishing opencv images with current aiopubsub version. For me the fix was to change L.283 in init.py to:
callback = lambda key, message: queue.put((key, message))
which does not make any sense to me but somehow memory leaks are now gone.
Just thought it might need some investigation ;)
