The ability to bulk change 1 or more key passwords in the GUI would be nice.
I could select multiple keys and choose to change the password. I'd be
prompted for any existing password and a new password.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Generate secret key, encrypt a file, reformat HDD
2. Reinstall Windows, recover cryptophane files
3. Attempt to access encrypted file after reinstalling cryptophane and pasting
old files into appdata\roaming\gnupg "default folder I believe" The files I
pasted are pubring.bak, pubring.gpg, random_seed, secring.gpg, and trustdb.gpg
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Replaced files from old HDD would change cryptophane back to how it was on the
old HDD and allow me to access my files.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
cryptophane-0.7.0-gnupg-1.4.2.exe on Windows 7
Please provide any additional information below.
I recently install cryptophane, generated a secret key, encrypted a file, then
reinstalled windows. I thought that all I would need was the password
associated with the file, clearly I was ignorant. Now whenever I try to open
the file I get "The secret key <unkown key EEFQ1456RWQ> is required to decrypt
this data, but was not found.
I thought that recovering the files listed above (pubring, secring, etc) and
placing them in the default appdata roaming location that cryptophane places
these files in when it creates a new key from scratch would give me back the
functionality I had before I reinstalled. Is there no way to ever get this
information back? Am I not placing the files in the right place? Are there more
files I need for this to work? Is there any way to skip the key and go straight
to the password?
Btw, I have tried changing the info in crytophane.ini to change the homedir,
but it never adds the keys. I have also uninstalled (and also deleted the
appdata folder) to try and do a clean install with the old hdd files.

It'd be useful to have the ability to remember the password I just typed in
when I go to decrypt another file. After I log off or close the program the
password could be forgotten.
It'd save me from having to type it in many times to open multiple files in a
short period of time.

Please provide one or more screenshots for the gui.
If you can provide some nice screenshots, ppl will be much more willing to give
the software a try. - You want to "sell" a gui, so give the users an impression
about what they will get.
(I have almost given up trying out gnupg UIs because they are ALL ways too much
focused on expert users. I am seeking a VERY enduser friendly tool that
definately has a convenient and NICE look and feel.)

Cryptophane was working fine for me to encrypt, decrypt and sign messages as I
am using Gmail for email client.
I was asked to install gpg4win to test something. For some reason, that created
problems for Cryptophane. I uninstalled gpg4win but Cryptophane continued not
to work properly. Then I uninstalled Cryptophane, even did a registry clean and
rebooted. Then reinstalled Cryptophane and now it will not import my secret
keys or any other keys on file. In addition, searching for keys on any
keyserver comes back as not found. I have even turned off the firewall but that
did not do the trick.
Please help!

A configuration option to place the program in the system tray upon
minimization would be useful.
Also another option to place the program in the system tray upon close
(clicking the red X in the top right) instead of exiting would be useful.
In the Tools, Options... dialog add checkbox options for:
Minimize to tray
On close minimize to tray
Right clicking on the system tray should provide a Exit option that fully
closes the program.
Selecting File, Exit should also fully terminate the program instead of
placing it in the system tray.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Installed Cryptophane
2. setup .ini file so it will start, had to fix the GPG file location
3.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I can see two public keys I already had from using GPG and Kleopatra. Neither
has a name/email/comment field filled in. When I go to View-Secret Keys, the
window below is blank, even though I created one along with the first public
key. Using the Message feature, I can successfully encrypt a short message and
decrypt it with the password I created under Kleopatra. I can't sign it
though, because when it asks me to pick a secret key, the options are blank.
I know the secret key exists, I know Cryptophane can see it, and it works to
decrypt, but it's invisible. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, that
didn't work.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Cryptophane version is 0.7.0.42 on Windows 7

A right click context menu item should be added by the installer (or provided
as a
registry file or batch script for non-installer distros like zips) that does
the
following:
If right clicking on a .gpg file then offers to Verify, Decrypt the file.
If right clicking on a single non .gpg file offers to Encrypt the file
Prompts for which key to use with default key already selected
If right clicking on multiple non .gpg files offers to encrypt them
Prompts for which key to use (default key selected) to encrypt them all
If right clicking on multiple files with a mix of .gpg and non .gpg then
ignores the
.gpg ones and offers to Encrypt the unencrypted files.
If right clicking on one or more folders offers to Encrypt All files inside
folder
or Decrypt All files inside folder (fully recursive).
This should work on both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows XP, Vista, and
7.
Some approaches use shell handler dll additions which require a 32-bit and
64-bit
dll. It is possible through registry changes to have the Cryptophane command
line
interface called with appropriate command options instead. This may require
adding
support for encrypting or decrypting folders/multiple files at once to the
command
line interface.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
--------------------------------------
1. Place your public and secret keyrings in a non-standard location, like U:\PGP
2. Bring up Cryptophane's GUI, or use any of the right-click extensions.
Observe no public or private keys.
3. Attempt to modify the shortcut for Cryptophane and the Registry for things
like HKCR\*\shell\cryptophane\command and realize that it gets overwritten
every time Cryptophane loads.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
-----------------------------------------------------
If there were a way to change the definition of --homedir globally within the
GUI, the multiple ways Cryptophane can be executed wouldn't all have to be
modified via command-line switches. This is especially true when attempting to
use either GnuPG or Cryptophane in a portable fashion.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Cryptophane 0.7.0 under Windows XP.
Please provide any additional information below.
------------------------------------------------
Please consider adding an additional Option to globally override the default
location (homedir) of keyrings, the trustdb, and possibly gpg.conf. Currently,
there is no practical way to use all of the features and conveniences of
Cryptophane when the user's keys are in a non-default location.
Alternately, read in the value of HKCU\Software\GNU\GnuPG\HomeDir and use that
as the default --homedir for the GUI.
