hace / desde / desde hace

  • hace: something that happened in the past

    • Hablé con él hace un año -> I spoke with him a year ago

  • desde: something is happening since a specific point in the past

    • Hablo con él desde las cinco -> I have been speaking with him since 5
    • Desde que me dejaste, lloro -> I have been crying since you left me

  • desde hace: something is happening for a period of time

    • Hablo con él desde hace cinco horas -> I have been speaking with for five hours

    • cuánto hace que

      • Cuánto hace que tu primo enseña salsa en esta academia? -> How long has your cousin been teaching in this academy?
