rpfx's Introduction

RPFX

RPFX is a Discord Rich Presence client for Xcode that lets you share what you're programming on your Discord status.

rpfx

RPFX will display the current file you're working on, as well as your workspace.

In addition, it will also show file icons for the following file types:

  • .swift
  • .playground
  • .storyboard
  • .xcodeproj
  • .h
  • .m
  • .cpp
  • .c

If you wish, you can tweak RPFX to use your own Discord application if you want to add custom functionality, such as more file icons.

Dependencies

RPFX uses my fork of Azoy's SwordRPC.

System Requirements

  • macOS Big Sur (11.0)
  • Xcode and Discord installed (otherwise this program isn't very useful)

Usage

When you first start up RPFX, it will prompt you for permission to control Xcode. We don't actually need to control Xcode, but we need that permission to execute AppleScript to get information on Xcode.

You can verify that RPFX has permissions by opening System Preferences and looking in Security & Privacy under Privacy, then Automation.

That's it, you're done - RPFX will now automatically monitor Xcode.

If you like, you can set RPFX to automatically open on login.

rpfx's Issues

Presence doesn't update (macOS 11.2.1, Xcode 12.4, Discord 0.0.261)

RPFX will set the initial project and file I'm working on as my Discord status, but switching to another file or project does not change the status, it continues to show the project and file that was open when RPFX was opened. Restarting Xcode and Discord doesn't seem to adjust the status, only quitting RPFX via Activity Monitor and restarting will adjust the status.

Can't build: consider inserting 'swift-tools-version:' between the comment marker and the version specifier

I'm having issues building which I believe is due to dependency issues. I'm still new to Xcode and Swift so forgive me for not knowing what's going on.

Here are my specs:

  • 2020 M1 Mac Mini
  • macOS Big Sur 11.4
  • Xcode 12.5.1

I thought it might be because of a link to your SwordRPC fork folder in the project manager, but cloning the repo and selecting the folder didn't fix it.

I'm not sure if RPFX needs to have a Package.swift file (thus why it's not finding the comment), or if the format is wrong in either SwordRPC or IBM's BlueSocket, but I checked and they both seem fine.

There's also this question on StackOverflow which is from DiscordX, which seems to just be a fork of RPFX. The poster on StackOverflow seems to be on an M1 Mac as well, so perhaps that's where the issue is coming from.

For now I'll use the app from the releases, but I would like to be able to build it myself.

I also think it would be a cool idea to add a status icon the menu bar, since it appears that there's no indication that it's running. I'd be willing to contribute and submit a PR if I could build!

Doesn't Prompt for Automation Access

Running the app just prints [RPFX] RPFX launched and seems to do nothing, no prompts for automation access and nothing happens. It doesn't connect to Discord, just stays there and does nothing. I'm not sure what to do next.

Installation Instructions

Hi! I am new to the world of Github and I am unable to figure out how to run this program. I have git cloned the program, what do I need to do further in order to show the rich presence?
