I'm closing this since there was no contribution since August 2016 and the web interface has changed a lot in between.
Feel free to reopen this issue if the error persists.

For anyone else who ends up here:
I got the same admin screen showed by @PromoFaux in the original post in this thread a couple days ago.
My problem started when the root filesystem on my pi filled up.
After freeing up space I cleared the admin cache as described by @ecaron on Thu Jun 09 2016 and the admin console returned to normal.
Suggestion to Devs: clear the cache when pihole is repaired, reinstalled, or upgraded...
