The preview window in GOverlay (spinning colored cube) doesn't show the mangohud initial overlay or subsequent modifications to the overlay. Manipulating options and saving still leaves it unshown.

Mangohud overlay is working on glxgears, vkcube and actual games. This is the only "3D" window that it doesn't show up.

I also tried invoking goverlay with mangohud command and ENV variable and it still refuses to show on GOverlay preview window.

When tested on another distribution (Arch), it worked as intended. Both opengl and vulkan USE flags were enabled during compilation.

The current default Python version in Gentoo is 3.11, and 3.10 had been switched to security support by now.

The PYTHON_COMPAT value in vmware-player ebuild currently contains versions from 3.8 to 3.10; it should be updated to include 3.11 (and possibly 3.12 as well).

I recently got the following warning when running emerge:

After a quick check I found out that the reason I have gconf installed is because it's pulled in as dependency by vmware-player – both v16 and v17 ebuilds have gconf listed in their rdeps.

I created /etc/env.d/99wsl-env with LDPATH and LDLIB and ran env-update after.
But I get the following:

test/meson.build:5:0: ERROR: C++ shared or static library 'd3d12' not found

How did you provide this lib?

vmware-modules-17.0.2 won't compile on kernel versions below 6.5-rc1 (due to this change).

Since the current stable gentoo-sources is 6.1.53-r1, I suggest doing one of the following:

• add vmware-player-17.0.1.21139696 back to the repo (it depends on vmware-modules-17.0.1) and explicitly fail vmware-modules at setup stage based on detected kernel version (or at least log a warning about supported kernel versions)
• add a patch to vmware-modules-17.0.2 and apply it depending on detected kernel version (uname -r?)
• add a patch to vmware-modules-17.0.2 and a USE flag to determine if it should be applied (e.g. +kernel65)
• add a patch to vmware-modules-17.0.2 that detects kernel version at compile time (e.g. like this)
