cap-git-tags's Introduction

Hey, Iโ€™m Pete ๐Ÿ‘‹

Iโ€™m a developer/designer who has been building things on the internet for over 15 years. I mostly specialize in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript development, but have built many products from scratch, wearing many hats, including design and even a small spot of marketing.

  • ๐Ÿ’ต Iโ€™ve recently bootstrapped and sold my first startup, Payhere (Exited May โ€™21)
  • ๐Ÿ›  Side projects... Happi.team (a fresh take on async customer support) and Nine commerce (simple online stores anyone can set up).
  • ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ป Iโ€™m currently working at Polywork, an exciting startup building a new kind of professional social network.
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Ask me about all things product, engineering or bootstrapping!
  • ๐Ÿ“ซ You can reach me here.

cap-git-tags's Issues

production deploys do not use latest staging tag

From the docs: "We lookup the latest staging tag in your git repo and go to deploy. You are prompted to confirm the deploy first". It does look up the latest "staging" release tag and reports this to you, but then it actually creates the production tag based on whatever you have currently checked out, and releases that. A suggested fix would be to checkout the staging release tag before creating the production tag.

Release tag confirmation is confusing

Please enter yes_to_confirm_deploy (n):

This is unnecessarily confusing. Am I meant to enter yes_to_confirm_deploy in order to progress the deployment to production?

The issue is here:

ask :yes_to_confirm_deploy, "n"

info "You are about to deploy: #{latest_staging_tag} to production"
ask :yes_to_confirm_deploy, "n"

Perhaps a more informative instruction could be put to the user instead?
