Resent button on victory page to reset game

I would recommend that the reset button on the victory page reset the game, not just the victory page. While an immensely valuable feature, I still think the UI space would be better spent resetting the game :)

Reset button on victory screen

Would like a reset button on the victory screen so the game can be replayed without javascript hacks or completely refreshing the browser. Good player experience!

Scroll transition when switching player characters

Right now switching player characters is jarring. Would like to have the viewport scroll from one character to another instead of snapping. Should probably think about not letting the player transition back to the original player character until the transition is over... maybe. Could be cool either way actually, try the easiest one first :D

Mute icon to have more padding

Right now the mute button butts right up against the edge of the view port and feels as if it's not integrated well. Obviously a polish suggestion.

Portal gem map transfer animation

Would be cool if we had an animation for the map transfer. I keep getting confused because I'm locked down and I don't know that anything is happening.

I don't see this as critical for submission, just nice to have.

Blocks can be stacked and pushed all at once

Blocks can be stacked and pushed all at once. I have a video if need to see it. To test:

  • Load up map 4
  • Get to the second section of the map with the white guy
  • Line yourself up behind all of the green blocks
  • Push them towards the portal gem
  • Note that the blocks can stack and be pushed

Reset option

both map 3 and map 4 have places the player can get stuck and a level reset button would be nice

Erroneous platform area in map 3

I think this map might have been made before mechanics were implemented, but I think this area is now erroneous. If so, Brian, would you like to delete it, or should I?

Starting point trivializes the first game mechanic in Map 03

Because the light guy is so close to the first activate-able block in map 3, it starts off as active for the dark guy. I imagine we could fix this by:

  • Adding another block to the bottom of the map and moving the start point back, or
  • Making the activate-able distance defined as a smaller area

I'll assign to Brian first because it seems reasonable to add another block.

Tearing while phasing and map loading

This didn't happen before I synced this morning, but it's happening consistently now. Programming check-ins during that time:

  • Added fade in/out
  • Cleans up the title screen
  • Adds fade in
  • Fades-out the player at the end of the level
  • Narrows the page
  • Puts instructions below the game
  • Reverts outlines for the recessed blocks
  • Updated recessed block sprites
  • Updated passable blocks
  • Doubles transition time

Art check-ins during that time:

  • Title screen
  • Title screen animated
  • Title screen layers

To test:

  • Open the game
  • Load level 1 via the javascript console
  • - Crafty.scene("Intro")
  • Note tearing

Player position can start off screen

If the map is big enough, the player position can start off screen.

To Test:
Open the Javascript console
Enter the command "Crafty.scene("Map_002")"
Note that the player start position is off screen.

Character hard to see on same colored platforms

Characters are hard to see on same colored platforms. Not a ton of solutions that I can think of here, but here's what we might do:

  • Not have the phased character alpha out (programming fix)
  • Change the character or background color so they don't match so closely.

Victory particle FX to be geometric

Would be cool to have geometric shapes in the victory screens particle FX. Now that we have Zoe's art in the game that could tie everything together nicely. You might also consider shades of red and blue instead of orange. That would match the portal gems better.

Music mute does not persist through map transition

Music mute does not persist through map transition. To test:

  • Load the game at map 1
  • Turn off the music using the mute button in the upper left hand corner
  • Complete the map by getting both characters to the portal gem
  • On map load, note that the mute icon indicates it's muted with the x but that the music is playing

Fade transitions on map transfers

Would like a fade out/fade in transition on map transfers. This will make the transition smoother and less jarring visually as well as give us some time to play audio.

Erroneous platform are in map 2

There is an erroneous platform area in map 2. This might have been intended as an exploratory opportunity. If so, please feel free to close the issue.

If not, feel free not to fix the issue before LD30 submission. I don't see this as a critical issue.

Turn off phase switching during map transfer delay

If you spam spacebar (phase switching) during the map transition you end up with a mixed character in the following map. It fixes itself after the next phase switch, so I don't see this as critical.

Crystal can be blocked at the end of Map 3

Not sure if this was intentional, but the Crystal can be blocked at the end of map 3 for the dark guy only. It prevents him from being able to reach the crystal and makes him super sad.

Single hole will eat multiple pushblocks

I designed a puzzle in map 4 that requires pushblocks path over holes that have been filled in but the hole will continue to eat all the blocks and cannot push over the top of them.
