Passive tracking of devices which are NOT connected to APs

As far as I understood, this software can track only devices which are connected to APs?

I've tried to install it to different hardware using generic image from openwrt.org and installed cgi-bin scripts and it doesn't look like it works at all.
iwinfo is able to show RSSI for device which is associated with AP, how is the software supposed to find user location?

Or it can find AP-client location and that's all?

iPhone/iOS compatibility

I was just wondering whether this can work on/for iphones or any other portable Apple products?
