cepiigeodist's Introduction

cepiigeodist

The goal of cepiigeodist is to provide the same data from GeoDist ready to be used in R (i.e. with the gravity package).

The package provides data on countries and distance measures alongside dummy variables indicating whether two countries are contiguous, share a common language or a colonial relationship, and others.

cepiigeodist can be installed by running

# install.packages("remotes")
install_github("pachadotdev/cepiigeodist")

The main source to obtain the data in this package is:

Mayer, T. & Zignago, S. (2011). Notes on CEPII's distances measures: the GeoDist Database. CEPII Working Paper 2011-25

cepiigeodist's Issues

Similar to gravity.distances

Hi Mauricio,

I have been working on a similar package that could similarly be integrated with the gravity package: https://github.com/julianhinz/gravity.distances

The distances provided there are in essence a continuation of the CEPII GeoDist methodology. These distances will likely also soon be provided on the CEPII website.

Maybe we join forces for the package?

Best

Julian
