tap-windows's Issues

Can't reach 1gb/s

Hello,
My internet ISP's speed is currently 1gb/s while connected directly to it (speedtest showing 950mb/s).
I have a private server which also has a 1gb/s speed on it, and openVPN configured with TAP.

The problem is that when I'm connected to openVPN from my windows 10, max speed is limited to 20mb/s (speedtest showing 20mb/s).

I already checked issue #3 , but it was created 3 years ago and I wanted to know if somebody has a tip to unlock speed to 1gb/s.

Thanks,
Storm

DHCP failure on reconnect after the very first connection

Windows 10 64-bit
Openvpn GUI

The error is
Initialization Sequence Completed With Errors ( see http://openvpn.net/faq.html#dhcpclientserv ) MANAGEMENT: >STATE:1559241905,CONNECTED,ERROR,10.8.0.2,xx.xx.xx.xx,9090,,

The very first connection to the server is successful, and the window minimizes itself as expected. If I reconnect, or disconnect and connect, every attempt after that fails.

I found an old forum post on this
https://forums.openvpn.net/viewtopic.php?t=12362
They have absolutely no solution to this, and I have yet to find an problem with my config.

All non-Windows clients work fine without this issue

Workarounds:

  • reinstalling the TAP adapter with the included scripts (or the one in the forum, or one that resets all adapters)
  • going to "Network Connections" in control panel (ncpa.cpl) and disable TAP adapter, reenable TAP adapter, reconnect
  • add the directive to the client config ip-win32 manual and set the IP, Subnet, Gateway, manually (again using ncpa.cpl)

The first 2 of my workarounds have to be done EVERY SINGLE TIME one wants to connect or reconnect to the VPN. The third one is an almost permanent fix, but if the server gives you a different IP, you have to do extra work...

OPen vpn

Hi guys, I am working on to develop an app that helps to pass my university exam. So I was using gephvpn for a while but android studio needs vpn in my country (Turkmenistan) to download resources such as dependencies. But now geph is not supporting to work in my country. So I need a help from you to download dependencies with vpn. I also tried to connect fodev.org (freedom of developers) with android studio but it also not helped to download the dependencies and packages.

Newest TAP9 driver shows as Unknown adapter

So i'm a torguard user. They're still installing 9.0.0.21 with their client. I was informed of the newest driver and updated it manually through device manager.

Everything works, apart from some differences such as interface metric which can be manually changed etc.

One thing I cant figure out how to "set right" is the adapter type so to speak.

If I do a ipconfig /all with the torguard installed adapter - it returns "Ethernet adapter Ethernet 3"
The Ethernet 3 portion is inconsequential as I know that can be changed.

the newly updated/current win10 driver however comes up as "Unknown adapter Local Area Connection" (and oddly enough gives it an interface metric higher (lower) than my actual physical connection.

How do i get "Unknown adapter " to become "Ethernet adapter "?

I had assumed it was something in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkSetup2\Interfaces but the few things I was willing to toy with, seemed to have no effect.

Hoping someone with a bit less rudimentary experience can set me right!

TAP driver hangs after Suspend/Hibernate on Win 7 and Win 8

The driver fails after suspend or hibernation on every machine I own.
The IP information window and the output of ipconfig are empty.
On Win 7, de-installing and reinstalling the device (hence fully restarting the driver) fixes it.
On windows 8, a right click on the connection and "Diagnosis" does the same (if the user has admin rights).

Please fix this. It seems like the driver doesn't properly detect the suspend/wake-up and some things are not properly initialized.

Unable to remove tap0901 device from Windows 8.1 preview.

Nothing can delete this device.
Device manager can not delete tap0901.
Devcon.exe remove tap0901 too.

Also this is displayed in device manager property window.

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
