OcTreeLUT wasn't used for a long time and is still experimental. I don't think handling max_depth was ever implemented in there, changing to feature request. Patches welcome!

Actually the function is pointlessly overcomplicated right now using a while loop searching through depths, where a simple switch/case and adding +-1 to key values would suffice.
Even with the max_depth functionality, shouldn't the delta to put to the keys be 2^(16 - max_depth), i.e. still no loop required?

I'm closing this issue. As part of the next release, the no longer used and unmaintained classes OcTreeLUT and OcTreeBaseSE will be removed.
