s04's Issues

NTR: Request for S04 model prediction of fluorescence

Required

Term name (PrefLabel)

model prediction of fluorescence

Definition

The value was obtained using a numerical model to simulate fluorescence, which is calculated by simulating the absorption of a substance (pigment, protein) in a cell followed by release in all directions at the emission wavelengths.

Optional

NTR: Request for ADCP bottom tracking from beams 1-4

We received a request for new S04 terms to describe:
ADCP bottom tracking beam 1
ADCP bottom tracking beam 2
ADCP bottom tracking beam 3
ADCP bottom tracking beam 4

Bottom tracking is a technique to measure platform velocity relative to the seabed using the Doppler shift of an ADCP signal reflected off the seabed.

We will discuss with the requester if this is relevant for Doppler Velocity Logs as well as standard ADCP instruments.

NTR: Request for S04 aerial survey

Required

Term name (PrefLabel)

aerial survey

Definition

The measurement was derived from observations made from the altitude of an aircraft.

Optional

NTR: Request for S04 model prediction of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) output

Required

Term name (PrefLabel)

model prediction of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) output

Definition

The value was obtained using a numerical model to simulate the output of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), a 36-band satellite-mounted radiometer measuring from 0.4 um to 14.4 um and at varying spatial resolutions (2 bands at 250 m, 5 bands at 500 m and 29 bands at 1 km).

NTR: Request for S04 acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) vertical beam

Required

Term name (PrefLabel)

acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) vertical beam

Definition

A vertical beam (sometimes referred to as "5th beam" on 5-beam ADCP designs) measuring the distance to the surface using the echo from short pulses and simple peak estimation algorithms. It is used to estimate wave height and amplitude.

NTR: Request for 2 new S04 spectrophotometry terms for a dual-electrode pH sensor (BODCNVS-1172)

Preferred label
spectrophotometry (internal electrode)
Description
Measurement of the amount of light absorbed by a sample at one or more specified wavelengths, generally within the visible waveband, measured using the internal (primary) electrode of a dual-electrode instrument (e.g. Sea-Bird SeaFET ISFET).

Preferred label
spectrophotometry (external electrode)
Description
Measurement of the amount of light absorbed by a sample at one or more specified wavelengths, generally within the visible waveband, measured using the external (reference) electrode of a dual-electrode instrument (e.g. Sea-Bird SeaFET ISFET).

Particle sizer method same as laser diffraction method?

The definition of particle sizer as an analytical method for particle size distribution does not mention laser diffraction. Should it? Have all particle sizers used the laser diffraction method up until now? From a quick search this seems to be the case. See e.g.

NTR: Request for S04 acidimetry

Required

Term name (PrefLabel)

acidimetry

Definition

Use of an acid-base titration assay to determine the concentration of an alkaline substance using standard acid.

Optional

BODCNVS-1088

NTR: New term for in-situ fluorometer (BODCNVS-1026)

We propose a new S04 term:

Preferred label: in-situ fluorometer
Definition: An instrument in the field that detects fluorescence emitted when compounds that are of a fluorescent nature absorb light and re-emit a fraction as fluorescence. Instruments can be configured with various excitation wavelengths to detect a variety of specific fluorescent compounds.

NTR: Request for S04 altimeter

Required

Term name (PrefLabel)

altimeter

Definition

A device that measures its distance or altitude above a fixed point or surface, such as the seabed or sea level.

Optional

model prediction of satellite product outputs (2 terms)

Preflabels to be set as:
model prediction of Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) output
model prediction of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) output

Terms to mirror the existing term:
S041176 - model prediction of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) output

Description for MERIS to be sourced from:
