Photoshop’s new Generative AI options include several new features that make it easier to create more compelling images using the software.
-
The new generative AI Photoshop features include Generative Fill, Text to Template, and Translate.
-
Generative Fill: This tool, already available to users, can help fix photo errors using AI. Users can insert, remove, or replace objects or even people in a photo using just a text description. Provide the command in a text window and let AI do the rest as you fine-tune it to your liking.
-
Generative Expand: This new feature allows you to enlarge images in any direction and add more scene imagery to fill the space with the help of AI. For example, the feature can add to or enhance the background to create a more immersive image or adjust the subject’s location.
-
Translate: With translate, users can create content using Firefly generative AI in Adobe Express in a preferred language and then have it instantly localized and translated into up to 45 different languages. This will make it easier for businesses to develop content they can use then worldwide in various marketing and social campaigns.
Text prompts are at the heart of the new generative AI Photoshop features, which allow you to type in a command to generate an AI response and reaction.
Generative Expand uses the existing Photoshop crop tool. Drag the artboard to add the desired space and use a text field to create the necessary details to complete your newly expanded image. Enter your prompt and select Generate to see the image options.
For example, if you have a forest landscape photo but want to extend it further to each side, adding more scenery, trees, and sky, you can enter the prompt “forest,” and an AI-generated image will appear to complete the background. You can then select from various styles until your image looks just as you want. To use this feature, you need the latest Photoshop update. You’ll see the tool in a floating toolbar when using the available generative AI options.
Generative Fill, meanwhile, uses the Marquee or Lasso tools that are staples in Photoshop to help fix mistakes or imperfections in photos. With Generative Match, use the style of an image found online to generate a new one. However, you must confirm that you have the rights to use the uploaded images first.
Note that along with using licensed photos for training the AI, Adobe will also label all AI-created images as such with content credentials. The images are labeled in order to ensure trust and transparency, so it’s clear these images were created using AI and are not untouched, original photos.
