equitable-preprints's Introduction

Hi, welcome to my GitHub πŸ‘‹

I'm currently switching into data science after 10 years' experience in several types of research and analysis. I recently completed an intensive bootcamp in professional data analysis (CodeClan, Scotland) and started work as a Data Scientist with NHS Scotland in November 2023. I've been coding regularly in R, SQL and using Microsoft data tools (PowerBI: PowerQuery and DAX; AzureDevOps; VS Code) ever since.

My "why" is to use data to inform and improve solutions for real-world problems, especially in the domains of environmental sustainability, nutrition and health, and internet communication technologies. I love spotting patterns, helping people to connect and share knowledge, and designing functional and visually appealing products.

  • πŸ” I’m currently working on translating my final CodeClan project from R into Python
  • 🌱 I’m currently learning how to make environment-friendly data and coding infrastructure choices (see GoCodeGreen!)
  • πŸ“š My previous experience is in neuroscience research, business research/design projects in science publishing/funding & technology, open science/open source community management, events design/facilitation (hackathons, workshops) and communications
  • πŸ“« How to reach me: message me on linkedin

P.S. you can set up a README for your profile too, see the docs.

equitable-preprints's Issues

make slide for project pitch

one slider required, as per a template

Ideas:

  • a visual to illustrate helping people to be seen
  • make the point: science is not meritocratic, it's social; equitable innovation requires intentional tool design; preprints may only perpetuate existing inequalities without careful attention on the processes adding visibility, review and curation
  • the prototype framework - brief plan, skills needed, name check people in the room!

@dasaderi can you help, please?

identify potential team mates or contributors at sprint (in-person)

  • Dominika Tkaczyk, Principal R&D Developer, Crossref
  • Mate, PreLights & PreLists
  • Galabina Yordanova, UX Designer, European Bioinformatics Institute (eupmc)
  • ethics perspective: ask Tania Allard, Georgia Aitkenhead [Turing autism research platform]
  • editor perspective: would comments / reviews of preprints help them be taken seriously during peer review? (NicolΓ‘s Alessandroni? eLifers?)
  • researcher perspective: Aziz Khan - ambassador x2, ECR advocate
  • potential ECR project lead to take this forward
