waveinfo is a pure-ruby gem to get the information from the headers of Wave (.wav) files.

Installing

You may get the latest stable version from Rubyforge. Source gems are also available.

$ gem install waveinfo

Synopsis

wave = WaveInfo.new('example.wav')

License

The readme mentions: License: Distributes under the same terms as Ruby

While the actual ruby license is both BSD and GPL compatible, the license in this project has replaced the 2 clause BSDL section with GPL. To my reading, this makes it incompatible with more permissive licenses. If it is helpful I am willing to open a pull request to change it to the ruby license, or update the readme to say GPL, your choice.

Add support for the extensible format which uses GUIDs

All output goes to stderr

Could a debug flag be added so that I can disable the warnings going from this gem to stderr? Our sysadmins are getting an email every night because we use this gem in a cron job.

I'll take a whack at a patch for this.

The axml chunk may contain any data compliant with the XML 1.0 format or later, a widespread
format for data exchange [4]. Note that the chunk may contain XML fragments from more than one Schema.
The axml chunk may occur in any order with the other BWF chunks within the same file.
