Thank you for reaching out! What about ignoring entries with a name with a comma? That should be safe.

That is what is currently implemented in Nixpkgs. I just ignores those crates. It would be nice to have some deprecation in the future where we can get rid of this hack completely.

I documented our dependency on a recent nixpkgs version. In practice, this has been my policy anyhow.
buildRustCrate is still too immature to depend only on the stable version. In fact, I even considered depending on a forked version but I like that buildRustCrate is shared between carnix and crate2nix and therefore maybe gets more attention.
