It's unclear if the loaded values are failing to convert and thus returning as nil (thus not being included in the resulting table) or if they were never saved properly to begin with. Viewing the raw bytes saves would be required. Something is very odd though because even 0x00 should read as the number 0.

Saving in BZ2 writes a 2 byte size followed by bytes of data. It appears there is a lot of padding too unless you block the data. Custom functions on the C++ side that can write to byte strips and then save them would be far better.

Simply lists the types rather than processing them.
