faangband's Issues

More graphics missing

Mondkalb:"The scroll of acidproofing has no visible icon. I am playing with the Gervais tileset. After identifying an unknown scroll on the floor it became invisible."

Another birth options bug

I started a thrall in hybrid dungeon mode (not sure if that's intended; you start at DL86), after dying and trying to start a normal character in angband mode, I'm in the fabled nowhere town and I have a thrall inventory.

Compiling on some Windows systems does not copy libpng12.dll and zlib1.dll

On some newer Windows systems, instead of copying libpng12.dll and zlib1.dll, the system will copy over several source files.
image

This occurs because of how the Windows copy command treats dlls at folders if / is used instead of \

editing Makefile.win's Targets section to use \ should fix it. If this causes issues with other systems, when defining CP and RM, add BAR="" for DOS commands and BAR="/" for POSIX commands, then in Targets replace / with $(BAR).

I have a fixed copy of Makefile.win in my Ponyband repository, but did not merge it in as it also renamed the executable to ponyband.exe

Squelch dropping

Items ID'd and marked squelch not dropped even with hide_squelchable set (dropping happens when something is picked up).

Knowledge of permanent curses

Item descriptions should mention if the curses can't be removed. In fact, a thorough check of curse descriptions is a good idea.

Monster pathing issues

elliptic: "Morgoth seemed to be having trouble walking straight - he wasted a lot of turns moving around near me without attacking me. This included both moving between squares adjacent to me and moving between squares at distance 2 from me. This seemed to be happening more often as the fight progressed - at the start, he was doing the usual thing of either casting nasty spells or hitting me."

Mondkalb: "I have been noticing that many monsters seem to behave odd if there are traps or objects on the ground or if the terrain changes. Looks a bit buggy."

Equipment subwindow

The line between the equipment proper and the quiver is sometimes not cleared

Sound

Sound is broken on windows - probably expecting wavs instead of mp3s

Chaos effects

Most issues are fixed but one remains: If a unique is shapechanged to a non-unique it's unique status is lost, while chaotic effect itself seems to treat shapechanged monsters correctly now, some other things may not, e.g. shapchange unique and then genocide it or polymorph by wand of wonder, etc. In my verson I simply deny unique shapechanging by chaos effects, but other solutions may be used.

Well-balanced

Items are not described, and I suspect not identified, as well-balanced.

Crashes when using weapons "of Chaos" and polymorphing monsters

I encountered a rather nasty bug when playing with a Dagger of Chaos in FAangband 1.4.1. Whenever chaotic effects induce polymorphing a monster, and that monster is subsequently killed, the game crashes hard. It is 100% repeatable; ie if it happens once, and you start the game again, and kill that same monster, you'll get another crash.

If however you let that near death polymorphed monster alone for some turns, at some point it becomes an @, and then you can kill it without crashes. The game says you've killed a "".

Spell tips

Some spells - at least early druid damage spells - don't have details of damage dealt.

Warrior SP

Monkay says:
I am playing a Beorning Warrior and when I change into a bear and back again I seem to gain huge amounts of SP and sometime it goes negative i.e. I would start with no mana, change into a bear, turn back into a human and have 156117 SP, I would change into a bear and back again and I would then end up with -13903 SP and so on. I wouldn't mind if my mages got 156117 SP but not my warriors, thats just a tease!

Stairs to nowhere

Hi Nick, I was on Angband 28 (angband mode), took some up stairs and ended in a "nowhere" town. My recall point was reset so I have to travel by foot to that depth. I'll try to send a savefile. Please send me an email to "dieiggon at yahoo com ar", that way I can respond to you with the file. Version was 1.4.1. Amazing variant BTW.
Thank you
-Diego Gonzalez

Saving edit files in Notepad gives parse error

Opening a file in the Edit folder in Notepad, then saving it, even without making any changes, causes FAAngband to give the following error:
Parse error in line 1 column 1: # File: undefined directive
image

I accidentally opened p_race in Notepad instead of Notepad++ but figured it wouldn't be an issue to make a small change since it's a text file. (It says artifact in the screenshot since I tried that to see if any edit file would trigger the issue.)

kdiff shows the only difference being the ú in Drúadan, showing as ú in the good copy, but restoring that line had no impact. Notepad++ shows them both using for the end of line characters.

Samples of a good and bad file can be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/sg1xtf13jer58ja/p_race.rar

Ghost names cutoff

Mondkalb:"Also, the announcement "Robert Ruehlma, the Deathlord thunders ..." has robbed poor Robert of his two "n"s."

Really should just increase the allowable length

Various startup issues

Startup
"Hit any key to continue" ... and I can hit keys all day long, I only get to the 2nd screen when I actually click into the main window?!

Starting a new game
(always chose "extended wilderness" .. thats how I got to know FAA, and got to love it ..)

  • the "permanent game modes" windows is poor, as it is un-intuitive and hard to read even after you have understood how it is supposed to work ...
  • Somehow in the beginning always a "Female Easterling Warrior, Lvl 0, Max HP 25443" shows up in the char stats (term-2) ...
  • Likewise, later on all points are already distributed to attributes ...
  • Beornings seems to start at map lvl 17, 2 north of Amon Rûdh, unless you suicide them, and then restart from the "dead" savegame .. then you're put in Gladden Fields (as the help file suggests)

Splashscreen code

Splashscreen code needs updating, including reformatting news.txt and splash.txt, and making splash.txt only appear during array initialisation.

Lava

Answering no to enter question puts you in the lava, but undamaged

High level books unusable

Casters can't use the highest level books - trying to browse from the equipment gives "You connot browse that" and they aren't included when trying to learn spells.

Reported by guanlongwucaii

Mode screen improvement

This is not very intuitive - distinguishing selected and unselected options by colour might be good.

input repeat bug

Prismatic says:
I'm getting a weird input bug; when I use the keys at the top of the keyboard to type a number, it enters twice - for instance, if I try to buy 3 items at the store, it types in 33. This applies to moving around too, though I don't normally use those keys to move. I can backspace and remove one of them. The numpad, on the other hand, works fine.

Useless doors

Doors are being placed where they don't go to anywhere, notable in corners of two-wide corridors

monster recall doesn't display in subwindow

imsabbel says:
I am pretty sure that years ago, if you had a terminal set to monster recall, you got the info of the monster you were browsing in the lore list in that window.
Now, it does not, so you have to press return everytime to see the stats/etc of the monster.

Incorrect character encoding in some screens

The specific case I have encountered is when I have the Dart of Eöl in my inventory. It is properly displayed as such in most screens, including the inventory & equipment lists, and in the game history where it records you finding artefacts. However, in the detailed character information screen ('C'), the character encoding isn't handled properly and you get garbled characters instead of a, in this case, ö letter.

Navigating world regional map in game.

I'm new to FAangband, and am really enjoying working my way through the biomes that the wilderness has to offer as I find my first dungeon. As a new player, getting my bearings in the wilderness is tough because the map offered in the help documents doesn't share the danger level that the regional map (accessed from the view map key when on the surface) provides. So, I thought that being able to traverse the regional map graph when direction keys are pressed would help players plan their travels better. If interested, try out my v1.2.7-feature branch on my fork (commit 5b6ce35).

birth options

it's not possible to actually tell what I have enabled or not (I play in a 80x24 terminal) and sometimes it breaks entirely and the game just crashes after selecting "start with these options". I'm not sure what causes that (it might be quitting a game?), using a new savefile seems to fix it.

Overhead map

Malak Darkhunter says:
Don't know of this has been mentioned, but I had trouble with the map displaying correctly in fa 1.2 it was visible but kind of jumbled together and not very readable, played without wilderness.

Shield AC

In my current competition game (Saegwath) some shields are deficient int armour class - Wicker Shield [0, +2], for example.

multiple players

imsabbel says:
He encountered a white @, which read "Easterling Player" in a cavern. After bumping into it, the game crashed hard...

Neither Num Lock setting (on/off) is convenient in all situations

Hi!

I'm on Windows 7, and am playing the version hosted at http://angband.oook.cz/faangband/FAangband140-win.zip. I'm using the original command set.

Problem behavior:

When Num Lock is active, I can't "run" (can't use Shift+direction). Trying to run instead moves me a single square at a time, as if Shift weren't pressed.

When Num Lock is inactive and I am entering an item count in a shop or for the 'k' command (and presumably in a variety of other contexts as well), most keys on the numpad produce bad input (a space) instead of a number.

Expected behavior:

Expected behavior (successful run, successful entry of numbers) in both of the above contexts under at least one numlock setting.
