community-and-code's Issues

why everything duplicated between master and gh-pages

It seems that all documentation and data are duplicated between the master and the gh-pages branches. Is there a reason to that? Obviously, the danger is someone inevitably will forget to apply a correction in both places.

fix broken links

@epontell writes the following:

Looks good, except that the Download links on the left do not work for me (including the View on GitHub link).
The links in the evolutionary database interop (2009) hackthon are broken. I am not sure how to go in and check them, but:
· Top link should be https://nescent.github.io/community-and-code
· Use cases (I believe) should be https://evoinfo.nescent.org/Database_Interop_Hackathon/Use_Cases
· The target projects links should be https://evoinfo.nescent.org/Database_Interop_Hackathon/Target_Projects
· Link to list of final subgroups should be https://evoinfo.nescent.org/Database_Interop_Hackathon/Subgroups

Other links with problems:
· The GMOD Evo Hackathon has a link for “list of objectives” that seems to point back to the same page. The link should be http://gmod.org/wiki/GMOD_Evo_Hackathon#Specific_objectives

fix misleading return-on-investment statement

I believe that a sound return-on-investment argument can be made, but I think the current statement is a bit simplistic and easily mis-read. Where did we get the 7.5M figure?

The known budget is 250K for travel support. However, we also benefited from

  • admin support for travel arrangements donated by sponsor
  • event support including rooms and IT donated by sponsor
  • organizer time volunteered by organizers

Snacks, coffee and room rental costs are trivial in comparison to 250K.

I would estimate our volunteered organizer time to be 3 to 5 person-days per event. Over all 9 events that would amount to 36 days = 5 weeks = 1/10 of a year. That is still small in comparison to 250K.

Can anyone estimate the value of admin support?
