mce-adapter's Issues

Potential improvement: power to VGA pin 9 for SCART blanking

If you ever make another revision of this board, it might be worth adding a jumper to enable/disable sending 5v to pin 9 of the VGA connector. This would make it possible to use a VGA to SCART cable with a 100ohm resistor to the SCART RGB blanking pin (16) to deliver CGA to a standard European television.

This should be implemented as a jumper because there are reported to be some rare older monitors from when pin 9 was a key pin that mistakenly ground it rather than leaving it N/C.

Production via PCBWay is not possible

I got this email today. I wanted 5 (min qty) of those adapters fully assembled.

Could you please update your BOM File please?

Hi,
Thank you for choosing PCBWay! I'm your sales representative.
There is a question for you about your inquiry:
The part number in your BOM file is uncompleted, so we can't quote for you according to this file.
Could you pls complete them and send the file to us again?
There is a sample BOM file attached for reference.
Thank you and look forward to your reply!

1N5819 VIA's are not large enough. VGA Connector row spacing incorrect, Cap Incorrect

Couple issues that I noticed while trying to build this.

The VIA's for the 1N5819 are too small, they should be the same size as the hole for the pin header or socket. I have ordered 2 different 1N5819 and both of them have thicker leads than a 1/4w resistor

The footprint for the VGA connector is incorrect, the rows of 5 are too close together, unless you are using some type of uncommon connector that I cant find.

The capacitor that you have listed in the BOM is 10x13 with 5mm lead spacing. The footprint on the PCB is 5mm diameter with a 2.5mm lead spacing

Appreciate your work on this project! Thanks again!

Potential improvement: selectable sync-on-green output

This would allow for easier connecting to scaler devices other than GBS8200, which sometimes have a RGB on triple-RCA component video connector, accepting either RGB or YPbPr.

While the latter is overkill, due to requiring high-speed video opamps to convert that, sync-on-green can be done with two transistors and some passives. Then, any cheap VGA-to-3RCA adapter normally used for YPbPr input should work with that.

I plan to connect a small external circuit to the pin-header exposing the signals as a PoC - and if it works out, I can implement that on the board and submit a PR.

GPL License Violation?

It looks like a company going by gglabs is building and distributing a slightly modified version of this adapter without following the GPL 3.0 conditions. I've contacted gglabs regarding this but wanted to make the community aware as well.
