gns3theme's Issues

logname: no login name

Hi , when i try to install the theme I got this error logname: no login name even if i run it as root.

Does it work on Windows?

I searched the whole internelt, and you are the only person contribute on dark mode for GNS3, that's awesome!

Theme not working

I imagine that I did the procedure correctly, as shown in the attached images, without returning errors, but nothing happened, the "custom" theme is actually the same as the "classic" theme, I have already tested it with other themes, but it is not working as it should.

No Custom option under "Interface Style"

Hi dev,

Is this project still on active development ? I guess it's not compatible with the latest gn3-gui release, since the "Interface style" drop down menu doesn't show the "Custom" option.

Edit: It seems that the "Custom" option is not appearing on Voidlinux only for some reason, I tried installing it on Archlinux and the option is there but it's not taking effect since the theme turns completely white as soon as I select "Custom". Any ideas ?

Assistance needed changing GNS3 app menu text colors

First: Great tool!
Second: Wish GNS3 team would incorporate this into GNS3. This has soo much value.
Third: About me. I have a cataract. This means it's like I'm looking through frosted glass. Excess light washes the vision out. Any light colored background means I cannot see or read anything. The best solution is night mode with high contrast (white) text. Ie black background, white text.
Without gns3themes, I cannot use GNS3. I use GNS3 for prototyping solutions at my job...I get paid to use GNS3. Thank you for writing gns3themes.

Now my issue:
Debian 12
Python virtual environment deployment of GNS3 via pip install.
1st to get gns3themes to work, I had to determine my location of GNS3 in the python virtual environment.
In my case: /home/bsaunder/programs/GNS3/gns3-server-master/gns3env/lib/python3.11/site-packages
So after I git got (checkout or download zip) /home/bsaunder/programs/GNS3/gns3theme-master
I could:
sudo ./gns3theme.py --install /home/bsaunder/programs/GNS3/gns3-server-master/gns3env/lib/python3.11/site-packages -u $USER -s n30x-dark --fg bbeb14
and it worked!

Request: remove the sudo check. It is not always needed. In my cause, bsaunder owns every file in the path you should not need sudo. I trust noone as we all should. sudo is not safe :)

Now my problem. No matter what I do, the menu text in GNS3 always comes out a dark green. This is low contrast and hard to read without a magnifier.
I've tried modifying: colorschemes.py and custom_style.py and rerunning the above command.
Nothing I do changes the menu style. I really like to change the color and the size.

My theory is that it's not applying the modifications after the 1st run. Here is the output from my run:
CSSFormat: Generating new CSS format
PatchFile: Start Patching gns3_gui source code
PatchFile: File already patched gns3_gui main_window.py, skipping..
PatchFile: File already patched gns3_gui settings.py, skipping..
PatchFile: File already patched gns3_gui style.py, skipping..
PatchFile: Changed gns3_gui grid color
PatchFile: Changed ethernet_link_item color
PatchFile: Finished patching gns3_gui source code

Is my theory right that the bits I'm changing were skipped?

Request: flag to force repatching everything (if my theory is right)

Open for ideas.

Updated version or revert flag?

Labbing late last night and I ran this script, but I did not check my versions, I ran this on 2.2.3, and now my gns3-gui package is still holding onto the changes even after a re-install.

What I've done to try and fix it -

  1. Re-install gns3-gui and gns3-server
  2. Restored ~/.config/GNS3

Have you given any thoughts to updating this to support newer versions or a way to reverse changes made?

change color of links

So I've installed following the isntructions. But these changes the theme globally. Is there a chance of modifying certain links widths or colors, individually? As per the github page, it seems so, but I'm not being able of finding where to do it ... :-( ...

I mean, is it possible to change some links to, say red, and some other to blue? Or dashed? etc ... but in the same project?

problem with installation

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but im getting a bash error when trying to run this command
sudo ./gns3theme.py --install /path/to/gns3/installation/directory -u $USER --scheme <colorscheme>
I replaced the path with my own install path.
When run, i get this error
bash: syntax error near unexpected token 'newline'
Cant figure out what's causing this, thought I could ask here in case there's a bug somewhere.

Fedora 34 - Theme Doesn't Switch Over From Yellow Theme - GNS3 2.2.23

Hi,

I stumbled upon your project and I just want to say great work! I was able to follow your instructions on how to install the theme, but I believe there's a bug

I can't seem to switch away from the off yellow theme (attaching screenshot) unless I choose 1 of the regular pre-built themes. I've tried the following:

  • Switched to CustomLight, same issue
  • Switched to CustomDark, same issue
  • Disabled Gnome tweaks dark mode (change to light mode), repeat switching to CustomLight and Custom dark--same issue

Themes I've tried so far:

  • solarized-dark
  • n30x-darkw
  • solarized-light

Reboots in-between.

Here's the path, and here's the gns3theme.sh script:

[gns3@gns3:~/Downloads/gns3_themes/gns3theme-master]$ pwd
/home/gns3/Downloads/gns3_themes/gns3theme-master

[gns3@gns3:~/Downloads/gns3_themes/gns3theme-master]$ ls -l
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 gns3 gns3 19547 Jul 4 00:11 gns3theme.sh

Here's the output when I run the script:

[gns3@gns3:~/Downloads/gns3_themes/gns3theme-master]$ sudo ./gns3theme.sh -u gns3 --scheme n30x-darkw

  • Finished applying colorscheme

GNS3ThemeDoesntChange

Color is not being applied to gns3-gui grid

with gns3-gui 2.2.3 there are two grids now. regular grid and node grid. changing those values from preferences sometime messing up the grids.

going to open issue with GNS3 devs.
gns3theme will get rid of node grid to fix the issue until it get fixed by the GNS3 devs:

--lw & font color issue

Hi,
There is an issue with the --lw link width flag, since setyp.py is complining about # in front of the link width value. This can be solved by omitting the # at line 381

        --lw)
            linkFlag=true
- colorscheme[10]="#${2}"
+ colorscheme[10]="${2}"
            shift 2
            ;;

Another thing is that am not able to change the font color in the gns3 preview window, say like the text on top of network switches, routers ... I've tested all flag combinations with no luck so far; Is it possible to share the n30x-dark3 theme config since am clearly missing somthing here.

Best Regards.

MacOS support

When I try to run the install as root I get this error.

sed: 1: "/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxv ...": invalid command code f
/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000/T/gns3theme.XXXXXXXX.vQn2Uwru

My Mac is on MACOS Big SUR 11.4.

Current GNS3 Version issue

Hi,

Thanks firstly for making what look like some awesome themes!

Well I can kinda see the theme when I install them, the problem seems to be that it only works for version 2.2.3, where the current version is 2.2.16 that my server is running.

I am guessing every time GNS3 releases an update you need to update your gns3-gui contents? Is there a way to install a scheme with out replacing all the GNS3 core files so it is independent of the version as I see this being a continual issue and I would really like to use these themes as my current dark theme for KDE makes the text impossible to read unless I switch to classic built in theme.

Thanks.

GNS3 Theme - Update - Not Really An Issue

Good morning,

As of right now, I'm on GNS3 version 2.2.23, and GNS3 is on version 2.2.26.

Would there be any issues updating to future versions (I believe this GitHub (gns3theme) is based on 2.2.23)?

I didn't want to try and update to test this out in case something breaks, sometimes it takes a bit of time to build from scratch again.

Anyways, still using the dark theme, and by far 1 of my most loved projects to date!

Sorry if this is the proper place to ask the question

Link color not changing

Hi guys,

As I pointed out in the title, the link color is not getting applied (Links are completely black). And the CSS file does not list the color anywhere.

Would appreciate any help. Thank you.
