whichbg's Introduction

AppIcon

WhichBG

Locate your OSX wallpapers.

Download the app

I have configured my Mac to rotate wallpapers images from a folder. Occasionally, it turns up an image I don't find tasteful and would like to remove from my collection. However, the folder contains thousands of images and the filenames are of the form 176 - kXFhuJJ.png, i.e., not very informative. This leaves me no (easy) way to look for these images.

This is where this app comes in. Upon execution, it sits quietly in the taskbar. When I click on it, it shows thumbnails of all the potentially active wallpapers and some more. It overestimates the list by including all wallpapers which are destined for screens which are not attached as well. When one thumbnail from the list is selected, it opens that wallpaper in a finder window.

whichbg's Issues

no longer working as expected in macOS Sonoma

hey @musically-ut

first, thank you so much for the amazing extension, I've been using it non-stop since I found it a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately, after I updated to macOS Sonoma I noticed that the images in the extension dropdown were no longer accurate, and after checking out
~/Library/Application Support/Dock I realized that desktoppicture.db no longer contains up-to-date information and paths about the current wallpapers.

I made a post on StackOverflow about it

but also thought I'd reach out here and see if you had run into the problem yourself

Thanks!

Stopped working.

From comment here:

I am REALLY sorry to be a bother... but I need some help.
I have, and love, this little app but suddenly, it has stopped working, in that it no longer updates the desktop picture in it's choices, but rather simply keeps showing the same 8 or 9 that it's already registered.
And, of course, to make matters worse, I have NO IDEA what to do with all the codes and stuff on the WhichBG page... or what is involved in "committing".
I'm hoping that you (or someone) sees and heeds this cry for help. I REALLY don't want to give up.. or keep using the same few pictures.
Thank you, in advance for any help that you can give me.... and maybe others are in the same predicament.

double clicking active background thumbnail in list does not open finder

Hi again - we worked on another issue many months back :-).

Small issue I found on macOS Mojave v10.14.6:

So the issue seems to be when opening your app from the menu bar > scrolling down to the bottom > clicking the bottom most thumbnail (which is the active background) > it does NOT open finder and highlight the file.

However if I double click on the thumbnail right above the last entry, it will correctly open finder and go to that image. Then if I go back to the app and now try to double clicking on the bottom most/active background thumbnail, it does correctly change Finder to highlight that file.

white icon

For those of us using system preferences > general > use dark menu bar and dock, could we have a white icon?
