Greetings,

I notice that Franker will sometimes have trouble translating large blocks of 
text.  If I select all (ctrl - A) and hit the hotkey for Franker, then it will 
translate up to a certain point and then just stop.  At that point, I manually 
highlight the following segments and frankate them, but the problem is that 
this often causes the page to freeze (it will just display "frankating" with 
the page grayed out, but nothing happens).

I've successfully frankated large amounts of text, but the process is rather 
cumbersome.  Is there some way to eliminate any sort of frankating limit so 
that I can frankate a huge amount of text (such as an entire novel) without 
having to manually select segments of the text?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Have to make translation service return no result. Not easy task, but observed 
with Google Translate API v1 and language autodetect.

Expected: Error alert displayed, then page back to normal state (gray cover 
disappears)
Observed: After alert closed the page remains  grayed.

a) Entered Safari Debug mode and disabled multi-process window because it was 
annoying…
b) updated Flash because it was time to do that.

Then I got cleaning things like bookmarks and extensions.

1. I removed multiple extensions from my Safari, including Twitter, the NY 
Times, another translation thing, and a few others.
2. Franker was the only extension left.
3. Franker stopped functioning.  While CNTRL-F worked fine for months (years 
even) now it produced no result. Pushing the CNTRL now puts "Display a Menu" in 
the status bar at the bottom of Safari.  
4. Adding Franker icons to the menu bar has no effect. Click translate 
selection or translate page results in no action.  
5. Uninstall Franker from preference menu. 
6. Download and reinstall Franker.
7. No joy.

In Franker for iPad, when I turn readability mode on, translations disappear 
and I cannot select any text to frankate. Was working well until a few days 
ago, already tried uninstall and reinstall. What should I do?

1. Selecting text in German or Spanish 
2. Attempting to frankate it to English (either via shortcut or via context 
menu) 
3. I have not yet tested other languages.

I expect franked output as usual, but I get several pop ups with the error 
message "franker error: no translation received ...". After four or five 
pop-ups, the page stays greyed and a HUD bezel "frankating ..." remains.

I use Franker 1.2.2 on Safari 5.1.1 on OS X 10.7.2. Franker is set to 
autodetect the language and to translate into English using Google Translate.

Franker worked fine all the time but started to behave like this consistently 
ever since 30. Oct 2011, 23:30 (GMT+1). Restarting Safari etc. does not help, 
and there are no errors logged in the Error Console of Safari (from the 
Developer menu).

Enable user to customize the translated block:
 * font color
 * background color
 * font size and decoration
 * enable/disable brackets around

reinstallng
quitting and reopening safari
restarting computer
select language and french options
there are no 'keys' for microsoft or google translate but I think it was always 
this way.

Amazing Chrome Add-on.  Is there any feasible way to frankate PDF files (or 
even word files) which are not web pages?  I do not care if the process 
requires many steps (or lots of different conversions); I'd be glad just to be 
able to do it, as I have a lot of PDF files that I need to frankate.

I expect to see the translation in green text near the selected text.  Instead, 
I see no translation text and am presented with an error panel containing the 
message:

The Franker preferences are the defaults.

The following did not solve the problem:
- Changing the "Translate from" language from "Detect language" to the actual 
language being translated;
- Restarting Safari;
- Disabling and reenabling Franker;
- Uninstalling and reinstalling Franker.

Franker has worked correctly for many months.  It seems to have stopped working 
within the last month.  I know of no changes that I have made that could have 
caused this problem.

The keyboard shortcuts are best entered by actually entering the specific key 
combinations into a text box. This is the way the mac keyboard preferencesPane 
lets you enter them and this would be a much better way franker to do it too

This should be perfectly OK on a windows machine too.

if you decide against this (and I could see why because it would be a lot more 
work) at least put a small bit of text next the text box saying how to enter 
the various modifier keys: Shift, Alt, Meta, Cntrl.

Remember, those of us on a mac, have no idea what a Meta key is!!!! We always 
call it "command"!

"Would it be possible to add the ability to remove a single inline translation, 
rather than all of the translations for a single page? Sometimes if I frankate 
a single word, it will not translate correctly, but if I frankate the phrase or 
entire sentence the word will translate correctly. With the ability to remove a 
single translation I could go back and remove the wrongly-translated word, and 
prevent the page from becoming cluttered."

Georgian to English translation does not work.
Use, for example, this page:

Franker alerts "no translation received", but http://translate.google.com can 
translate this text successfully.

"Frankate Page" also works with Georgian.

While I've tried translate to English only, I assume it does not work to other 
languages as well.

Assumption: can be related to characters escaping.

Some users ask for EPUB support in iOS version.
That can be done in some next version.
This issue is a reminder.

3. open popup showing up to five possible translations (nomen, verb, ...)

A user writes:

Currently in Safari, if I frankate a word or sentence, hit the back button on 
the browser, and then hit the forward button to return to the page with the 
frankated text, if I try to frankate another selection on the page, the 
"Frankating..." message will appear, but it will get stuck. The only way to fix 
this is to refresh the page, which removes all of the previously frankated 
text. Is there a way to fix this?

I use Farnker for safari in lion to translator english to chinese,it output:

"Is there a way to use Franker with offline html files? In the past I have 
converted ebooks into html files to use with pop-up dictionary applications 
like Globefish for Firefox, so that I can read entire books. Is there a way to 
do this with Franker, maybe convert the ebook to a special format? Currently 
when I try to frankate an offline html file nothing happens."

I think this is where we can suggest enhancements? Would it be possible to 
allow us to choose to frankate by sentence (obviously it must look for a period 
. ), or by phrase (have the program francate based on a comma , ) or both a 
period and a comma.  This would allow for shorter phrases, as a lot of writers 
on the net write ridiculously long sentences that it is easy to lose your 
place.  An even better idea would be to let us select the number of words to 
francate.  Let us choose a number,  x, and then have the program start a new 
francated phrase every x number of words.

It would be nice if franker would work in Safari 5 Reader mode.

When I want to translate with Chrome Dictionnary extension I just have to 
double click the work to translate it, why not with Franker ? It's really a 
paint to use ctrl+F.

1. Open franker with iPad and try to translate an article.
2. Error says: Verify your internet connection or switch translation services 
in Settings and try again. I have done both and neither corrects the problem.
3.  I also uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted my iPad, but nothing works.

has the latest apple operating system (the most recent update) -- the older 
version of the franker app worked fine with it.  It was only after the Franker 
app update that I had problems.

Thanks for creating such a useful tool. This is the best inline translator 
extension I've tried.

One feature I thought would be useful: when I read in a foreign language, I 
like to make a list of the words that I need to look up. I review the list 
later. I've found that this greatly improves retention, and transition from my 
passive to active vocabulary.

Is there a way this could be accomplished with franker/frankate?
