Issue with installing sslstrip

Hi,
I am facing some issues while installing the sslstrip
I run the following command:
python setup.py build && python setup.py install
then when i run:
sslstrip -h
Traceback (most recent call last):

ImportError: No module named twisted.web

I have tried installing twisted module using apt-get but unfortunately it is not there anymore
apt-get install python-twisted

when i install it using pip3 is shows that it is there
pip3 install twisted
Requirement already satisfied: twisted in /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages (18.9.0)

so please can you guide me for the proper way to install it

Is it possible to write sslstrip in python 3?
Because python 2 is deprecated and in Kali linux 2022.2, python 2 is no longer usual

I am having difficulties finding a way to install the dependency, twisted-web. Does anyone know a good place to find program? I have install twisted, but that is not good enough.

What distro can this be run on (easily)?

What Linux distro can this be run on (easily)? I tried on Fedora 20 -- but it has firewalld rather than iptables, and a very different Python version than expected. Perhaps an 2011 Ubuntu live cd would work better?

302 requests not working

I was pulling my hair trying to figure out why sslstrip wasn't striping even though I was spoofing. After trying for a while I started getting these when loading new pages.

The first one happens on first load, the second one if you hit refresh really quickly after the first load. If you wait awhile the request goes through normally, but ssl still isn't stripped. :(

Infinite Redirection problem

Hi there!

While using sslstrip, I encountered a rather small but crucial issue of infinite redirections.

Some links get redirected to "http://www.evil.com" while others might redirect to "http://www.evil.com/". A small difference, but an important one.

Since the '/' char is sometimes missing, the function "addSecureLink" cannot really find the index of "pathIndex", hence its value is set to -1 and "path" turns to be the full url ("http://www.evil.com").

The problem comes up next when ClientRequest uses UrlMonitor's "IsSecureLink" to decide how to treat the HTTP Request. "handleHostResolvedSuccess" passes the url to "IsSecureLink" with a '/' char (I didn't find out the reason exactly, but it does), and so the check if "(client, url) in self.strippedURLs" fails since
http://www.evil.com != http://www.evil.com/

This might lead to all sorts of unexpected behaviors, in my case - an infinite redirection.

I fixed this bug by checking for pathIndex value, and adding a '/' if necessary. Hopefully this bug will be fixed in the master branch as well :).

Not really an issue, question on sslstrip inside virtualbox

Last night, I was doing a proof of concept of attacking my desktop machines at home. I have a linux running on a virtualbox and configured as bridged. Before I started the spoofing, I checked the connectivity and everything was reachable by ping

from victim to gateway
from victim to attacker
from attacker to victim
from attacker to gateway

They are all in the same subnet. So I've configured my linux with ip_forward enabled. I enabled it in sysctl.conf so that's persistent even if I restart the vm. The cat tool shows 1 on ip_forward. I also ran the iptables command. Then finally ran 2 arpspoof commands on the linux machine which is the attacker

arpspoof -i eth0 -t gatewayip victimip

Then finally ran sslstrip -l 8080

I went to the victim's machine then opened up Chrome browser. I went to google.com. It was waiting for a response. I didn't see anything thing getting logged on sslstrip. I think after 1 or 2 minutes, the browser showed an error. It was like "unable to communicate". I reloaded google again. It was waiting similar to how I mentioned it earlier. I killed both arpspoof commands and few seconds later, google webpage got displayed on the victim's browser. This tells us that arpspoof was working and that victim was sending to it. I'm just wondering why packets are not being forwarded to the gateway. Is this the behavior when attacker machine is in vm?

I'm going to retry again this time by building a linux on a real machine(not virtualbox) and I'll keep you posted. However, please let me know your thoughts on what I wrote above.

Pages at victim does not load at first time

Hi, guys at BackTrack forums pointed out that since sslstrip 0.9 there is present bug which causes that pages sometimes does not load at first try. It throws different errors in different browsers:
Opera: Blank page with text "Location: ht"
Chrome: Classic error "This webpage is not available" with error "Error 321 (net::ERR_INVALID_CHUNKED_ENCODING): Unknown error."
Firefox: It does not react at first time or load blank page

It always loads after refresh.

Python 3 port

I wanted to ask if anyone has been doing any work on a Python 3 port.

I've been using sslstrip regularly in workshops to demonstrate risks of insufficient HTTPS, bad redirects, lack of HSTS etc. and I would prefer being able to continue using it in the future. With the deprecation of Python 2 sslstrip has been removed from latest Ubuntu etc.

I might try to make a port myself, but I wanted to ask here if anyone else is already workin on it or interested in joining forces.

Impossible install sslstrip

Hello.
I want to say it's impossible to install sslstrip in kali 2020.4 bcuz python2 was removed.
So apt install python-pip give back error so it's impossible install twisted module.
I want to know how work bettercap without sslstrip?? I don't understand...please explain me.

sslstrip outputs errors with python 2.7

I'm using Fedora 16. Running sslstrip produces a lot of python errors.
