ISM01 - Si1060 EZRadioPRO Transceiver

The ISM01 is a high-performance wireless transceiver designed for long-distance data transmission. The module is based on the Si4463 chip from Silicon Labs, which is part of the EZRadioPRO family. With its wide frequency range and output power, it is ideal for robust and reliable wireless communication applications.

ISM01A can operate on the open 433 or 868 MHz frequencies, which are popular in many applications.

Possible Applications

The MLAB ISM01A module with the Si4463 transceiver is suitable for various applications. It can be used in areas such as:

  • Remote Control: The module can be used for wireless control of various devices, such as drones, RC cars, or home automation.
  • Data Links: With prepared firmware, the module can function as a SiK data communication link, which can transmit MAVLink packets. MAVLink is a protocol designed for communication with unmanned vehicles and is supported by the most widespread autopilots Ardupilot and PX4. This is ideal for applications that require wireless data transmission.
  • Wireless Sensor Networks: The module can be used to create wireless sensor networks in IoT applications.

Based on this module, the company ThunderFly has developed a module optimized for use on drones, which combines this ISM01A module, RFSWITCH01A, and additional RF filters and LNA. More information about this TFSIK01 module can be found here.

Inappropriate RC filters at IO signals - causing malfunction on 3.3 V logic

IO signals are loaded by RC filter with values 33Ohm and 10nF!

The value of the capacitors should be decreased to about 100pF or completely removed.


Objevení tého chyby trvalo více než dva roky. Zásadní roli zde zřejmě hrálo umístění kondenzátorů ve schéma do místa, kde nikdo neočekával souvislost s IO signály. Tím pádem nikdo z řešitelů nezohledňoval přítomnost kapacit při řešení nefuknčnosti modemu na 3.3V IO signalizaci. V průběhu celé doby byl tento problém řešen použitím 5V signalizace na modemu napájeném z 3.3V.
Toto nešťastné rozhodnutí zas souvisí s podivnou formulací z datasheetu Si1060.

Připojení frekvenčního normálu

Pro některé aplikace by se hodila možnost připojení frekvenčního normálu. Bylo by tak možné generovat přesné frekvence.

Příkladem takové aplikace je:

Frekvenční normál by bylo nejsnazší vytvořit standardně pomocí modulu CLKGEN a atomového čítače. Dohromady tato zařízení tvoří již existující jednotku GPSDO, která na výstupu poskytuje obdélníkový signál o přesné frekvenci.

Je tak důležité zjistit, zda je možné modul ISM01 napájet obdélníkovým signálem o přesné frekvenci.

ISM01A - Chybí rezistor na bázi tranzistoru Q1 a Q2

Tranzistory Q1 a Q2, které ovládají LED D2 a D3, nemají na bázi rezistor, který by omezoval vstupní proud.
Díky tomu je možné tranzistory velmi snadno zničit připojením napájecího zdroje na jejich vstupní hřebínek.
