amstrad_mister's Issues

disk drive problems

I never owned a Amstrad/Schneider CPC.
But I wanted to get an impression, what I missed back in the days.

To format a disk, I started CPM2.2
Then I started DISCKIT3, following the manual.
But formatting failed on both disk drives.
P1030431
P1030432
P1030433
P1030434

At the end I could not leave DISCKIT3 at all (see last pic).
I had to reset the computer

Am I doing something wrong?
Or is it not appropriate to use CPM or several CPM commands?

Voice sample missing in Flyspy

As soon as the game 'Fly Spy by Mastertronic' loads, it should a speech sample that says "Welcome to Fly Spy" but instead it is silent on the Amstrad Mister Core.

boot.rom Issues

The latest boot.rom wouldn't work properly.
I booted set to the 6128 but it said it had 64K RAM.
I also expected it to boot Basic 1.1, but booted Basic 1.0.
It just kept saying "press PLAY then any key" when I ran CAT.
The workaround was to download the amstrad.rom from this repo: https://github.com/sorgelig/Amstrad_MiST/tree/master/releases
Then change the name to boot.rom. Everything worked great after that (reported 128K RAM and Basic 1.1 as well)

Silly question but how do I get it working?

Hi sorry I must be missing something as I can't get the Amstrad Core to work - does it require the SDRAM as possibly that is why? I haven't set that up yet...

I've installed the latest MISTer release, added the latest Amstrad rbf file to the root of the SD card. Made a folder called "Amstrad" then inside the folder I've put boot.rom (renamed from amstrad.rom) and a few .dsk files.

When I mount a .dsk file from the MISTer menu after launching the Amstrad core nothing happens. The screen just stays black.

Also how do I just load up the normal Amstrad "Blue Screen" so I can type basic commands?

Thanks for any help.

Name of mounted disk does not show in core menue

The name of a mounted disk does not shows in the core menu.

First I thought mounting a disk does not work.
I tested several disk images, but after mounting the menu showed ‚*.DSK‘.

But the mounted disk worked correctly.

Games with protection like 'The abbey of crime' do not work

Hi,

Thank you so much for the core. It's awesome!

I recently got hold of a number of games as they were released, with their protections. Many of them, however, do not work.

I mount the 'Abbey of Crime' disc in the drive, but typing 'cat' gives me a read error.

Thanks!

roms configuration

I would like to install assembly on the mister such as orgams.
I tried to insert the 4 roms using the mister menu, but it seems not to be dedicated to insert roms which interact themselves.
I also tried to rename the roms with the prefix boot like :
boot.e0A, boot.e1B, boot.e1E and boot.e1F.
The core reboots but the roms are not usable.
What is the best practice, to install roms on this core ?

Boot ROMs management.

Hello,

I'm new to MiSTeR but not to the Amstrad. Super happy to see the CPC in the list of cores, thank you for your work !

I have two UI requests :

  • Easy one : from a user perspective, the core doesn't work out of the box after a fresh MiSTeR install + update_all, because amstrad.rom is provided but MiSTeR looks for boot.rom. I was getting a black screen until I came here and saw it mentioned in the README. Would it be possible to remove this manual step for new users, so that this core works out of the box like all the others I tried.

  • Why is there a concatenated boot ROM with 664/6128, but 464 is handled completely differently with an extension ?
I understand that the 464 doesn't have a FDC, but again from a user perspective it would be great to be able to switch between CPC models / keyboard layouts (English, French, Spanish) from the menu, like many console cores do with EU/US/Japan, or most Amstrad emulators.
I know can build my own boot.rom files with e.g. a different keyboard, but it's not as user friendly, and even if I do I don't think it's possible to switch between them from the menu ? I'd have to juggle with the files on the SD card.

I'm happy to help in any way if you don't have time but can point me in the right direction. I'm an experienced dev, I know nothing about VHDL/Verilog but maybe with the help of ChatGPT there can be miracles 😄

Thank you !

YAO Demo

hi!
Space bar key doesn't work to watch the last and best part of the famous Yao Demo.
same problem than the CPC+ version.

SNA support?

Feature request? It would be nice to be able to load SNA files into memory.

Sound missing in Boulder Dash

Hi
Thanks for the Amstrad core. It is really nice but I have an issue with a sound missing in Boulder Dash (1) when Rockford is digging (the noise sound). All other sounds are ok, but this has vanished. It takes away the right feeling . I am using the latest amstrad rbf and sound is going through hdmi.

Am I missing something? I have tried stereo mix and changing equaliser settings on sound .
In see a fix 5 months back regarding the noise generator. Perhaps the bug is related to this?

Amstrad plus series core

Not a issue but a question.
Is the amstrad plus core planned ?
And do you plan the cpr support ?

Speed to load cdt

hello, when putting the core in cassette tape, the loading speed in cdt is slower than in the real machine, like -1 speed. thanks for your job .

azerty keyboard

Just a question, how to set the azerty keyboard ?
I get the French cpc6128.rom and rename it as boot.rom in the amstrad folder.
The keyboard remains in qwerty.

How can I set the French keyboard ?

Center screen

Hello ;)

Would it be possible to add a function of centering the right / left screen?

Thanks in advance.

Your job is awesome on this core ;)

Tape loading

I cannot load tapes. I get the following screen after following these steps:

  • Load the CPC 464 firmware ROM (this is the tape version)
  • Select the 664 model, for only 64kB of memory
  • Reset to apply the model
  • Load a .CDT file through the OSD menu (tried several of them)
  • Enter load " or run " in the BASIC prompt

I think this used to work a long time ago...

Config options

I first want to thank the developer(s) for the fabulous work on the CPC core.

Is there a reason for omitting the 464 from the available configs? Ideally there should be the possibility to choose from the following configurations:

464 (64k, 464 ROM)
464 w/disk (64k, 464 ROM, DDI-1)
472 (64k, 664 ROM)
472 w/disk (64k, 664 ROM, DDI-1)
664 (64k, 664 ROM)
6128 (128k, 6128 ROM)
And then the choice of adding various RAM extensions to each of the setups.

With the already built in options, an additional feature to easily swap between various localized roms (like Spanish, French) would mean we could choose between all the various variants of the original CPC series. We’re so close to actually having the whole CPC line-up preserved for «eternity», so thank you once again, and keep up the good work.

And yes, there are programs that work on the 464 with or without the DDI-1, that won’t run on neither the 664 nor the 6128, due to the differences in the ROMS.

Disk B problem

Disk B has problem since this commit: 7359144
description of issue:
After boot of core mount any disk with MV-CPC format, then type in command prompt: |b then cat. Catalog will be empty. After mount any disk with EDSK format, issue disappear. All further MV-CPC disks will work correctly.

Mentioned commit is pretty massive, so it's unclear the source of issue. Something it seems left uninitialized by MV-CPC.

Request: correct video positon according to real HW.

I have a problem with the position of the image on the screen of the Amstrad core in several CRT televisions (15hz), using VGA / SCART.
Basically the problem is that on some TVs, the core is off-center to the left, even losing the entire edge.
On other TVs, the core is off-center to the right, or above the screen, losing the upper edge depending on the model.
It is an issue that I have reported in Main_MiSTer and I have been answered (thank you) that it is better to post the problem in each core individually, since it is not possible to implement it at the framework level.
It would be great to have a Horizontal / Vertical position control in the OSD to be able to center the image regardless of the TV used.
I have tested the real machine on different TVs and curiously the image does come out perfectly centered.
I have tried several SONY trinitrons as well, such as SAMSUNG and SANYO models.

pause core in osd

hi
