If we push a deploy whilst a client is connected, the socket.io long polling starts failing when the server is stopped and does not recover. This means that out of date information is shown on the screen after a deploy until the page is manually refreshed.

It would be cool if we could reopen the connection after the server restarts. I know event source supports reopening dropped connections on the client side and think it's worth investigating whether this works the other way around.

Failing that we could just make the front end show a 'connection lost' message to prompt a page reload?

It would be good to have some tests for the backend code and maybe think about using Travis as a public CI server.
