Ok so this is the way i managed to make this work with the built-in HDMI + USB Adapter:
This are my laptop specs:
Acer Nitro 5
Intel Core i5-11400H
16 GB RAM
RTX 3050 Ti
Windows 11
Ok so I installed the latest driver version (V2.0.1.7.3) and I'm currently using one monitor through the HDMI port duplicating my laptop screen and a second monitor through the USB Adapter in extending mode. In order to make it work I have to plug both monitors and exit the USB Windows Display program (if it's already running), then open the program again as Administrator and that's how both monitor will show different content. (It's important to duplicate the laptop screen to the monitor connected to the HDMI port (that's gonna be your principal monitor), I can't get to work to extend all 3 screens.
Some extra info:
- My "Manage 3D settings" configuration in Nvidia control panel is set to Auto-select
- In my windows Graphics settings, "Windows USB Display" is set to use Power Saving (Intel UHD Graphics)
- It DOESN'T work if you set all 3 screens to extend (the one connected to the adapter wont show the cursor)
- There is some delay in the monitor connected to the adapter and if there's something moving on screen (like a Youtube video playing or dragging a program window there'll be even more delay)
- Even if you set the close the lid configuration to do nothing, if I close the laptop then it will only detect two screens (the two external monitors) and the one connected to the USB Adapter won't show the cursor.
- I opened the driver setup as Administrator.
I think that's it for now, maybe there's some delay but for the use that I'm going to give to that monitor, I think I can live with that until a solution is found, I hope this can help somebody with the same problem using built-in HDMI + USB Adapter.
Screenshots to help:
Nvidia control panel "Manage 3D settings"
Windows 11 System Graphics configuration for "Windows USB Display"
Two monitors in extend mode (left: USB Adapter, Right: HDMI Port)
Display configuration (1: Laptop Screen, 2: HDMI Port Monitor, 3: USB Adapter Monitor)
So that's it, hope it helps somebody :)

@rand3920
In which setting option in the Nvidia Control Panel need to change global settings to "auto select"? Can you provide a photo?
This will fix the problem? USB display and the built-in HDMI will be working simultaneously?
Did this work for you?

Hi @TempleV and @pfjarschel
I simply changed the "preferred graphics setting" setting in my nvidia control panel to "auto select" then restarted computer and it has been working for me since.
I am using my laptops display, a 4k monitor with my laptops hdmi port and a 1080p monitor with my laptops 3.0 usb port(using usb to hdmi converter and USB display driver). So 3 total monitors working at the same time flawlessly although the 1080p monitor has some mouse lag by milliseconds it plays videos and stuff fine.
from usbdisplay.
I have the same issue. Nothing helps. I checked different versions of drivers with and without Fresco driver, tried different combinations of graphic preference for "ms usb display" utilitity.
@MindShow , if you share the source code with community, it will be a good contribution, we can help fixing the issue. There are many people who wants to fix the issue. =)
from usbdisplay.
@mschief148 sometimes it happens to me, my workaround is to plug only the usb converter and execute the program and then connect my second monitor through HDMI, that way it'll work showing the cursor in the usb converter screen. (make sure you are mirroring your laptop screen to the HDMI one and extending the USB converter one, if you extend all 3 it won't work)

Hey,
Unisntall then install(without usb to hdmi adapter plugged in)
after computer restarts plug in adapter then other hdmi. if that doesnt work go into your nvida control panel and change global settings to "auto select"
hope this helps :)
from usbdisplay.
Can confirm it doesn't work if there is a monitor plugged in in the laptop hdmi port. My setup is similar to OP's, but with an AMD integrated graphics card instead of Intel.
Switching stuff in the Nvidia control panel didn't solve this, BUT, if the laptop HDMI port is free, the USB-HDMI only works if it's set to integrated gpu.
So, in short, here's the situation:
- Only one monitor plugged to USB-HDMI: works if the gpu config is set to auto-select or integrated graphics
- One monitor plugged to USB-HDMI, and another monitor plugged into laptop's HDMI: Doesn't work no matter the setting.
@rand3920 I would also really like to know if the steps ins your comment solved the problem to you, because no luck here.
Edit: Just tested the adapter in another PC (with only one GPU), and works as expected (for a total of 3 monitors, one of them being a tablet drawing screen), so it's not a faulty unit.

I literally bought this adapter to be able to have another screen on my high performance pc with dedicated graphics

@rand3920 It has worked here in some scenarios but not exactly what I want. Could you please try to close your laptop lid and check if the other two monitors will still work? When I try to do this here, the monitor connected to the USB Adapter stop working again
from usbdisplay.
@lucascsouza
have you tried closing your laptop with your phone plugged in through the usb port that you currently have your hdmi to usb converter plugged into?
if your phone stops charging when you close the lid then you just have to change some settings in your computer to stop disabling usb ports when closing the lid.
Also theres a specific setting for your computer if using windows to do nothing when closing the lid

Yeah, I tried that, but it didn't work, at all. Guess it can be dependent on the rest of the hardware or OS as well (motherboard, etc). Could you please share your specs?
Mine is an ASUS TUF FX505DU laptop, with Nvidia GTX1660ti/AMD Vega GPUs and Ryzen 7 3750H processor, running Windows 11.

Hi, same here, Laptop Video Specs: Intel UHD Graphics 630 & Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050
USB Display works fine using Intel GPU, but when local HDMI port is connected, USB Display software Crash, and restart every 3 to 4 secs.
Is this will be fixed, or i start to seek another hardware solution?
Thank You in advanced!
PS, i heve tried all solutions here, even Nvidia software forcing USB display to Intel UHD, but still the same issue.

@tirolocop this is exactly what happens here, restart every 3 to 4 secs after plug the HDMI cable.
I also started to look another hardware solutions, I saw a Wavlink adapter (UG17D1) working in a video.

I felt the same thing, but fortunately it works on my work computer, so it's not a complete loss for me.
It should work for laptops or desktops with only one GPU, so maybe you could sell to someone?

@MindShow can you share the source code ?
there's a problem between nvidia graphics and the software developed by you, I would like to debug all the process and share with all of you.
let me know if you can share your code, thanks.

@juan9900, your last post works for me; however, there is a significant refresh delay and no cursor displaying on the USB attached monitor.
So that's it, hope it helps somebody :)
from usbdisplay.
@rhuebner76 Hmm, that's weird, did you make sure you're duplicating your laptop screen to the monitor connected to the HDMI and not extending all 3 monitors?
I get the no cursor error when I extend the 3 monitors, however, there's always a delay when I get it to work.
from usbdisplay.
@juan9900, smh, yes, I was extending the desktop to the 3rd monitor which was the purpose of having the adapter. At this point it is no longer an issue as I have moved to using the Mini-DP in conjunction with the HDMI port and I have my multiple display setup operational again.

With the latest WinUSB application (v2.0.1.7.3) I confirm, that it doesn't crash with Win8ScreenDriverImpl exception on my multi-gpu laptop, but other issues are present.
One of the issues is slow response:
- about 1 fps of frame rate
- mouse cursor is absent on USB display
I tried to switch between modes in Windows Graphics Settings for WinUSB app, like power-saving (integrated GPU) and high-performance (descrete GPU), but nothing helps - slow frame-rate and no mouse cursor still.
