Look at using ruby-git instead of Grit about knife-community HOT 4 CLOSED

why not https://github.com/libgit2/rugged ?
I only question myself, I don't know any of this.

I currently shell out to the command-line git interface, and using a pure ruby means more portability, and adding libgit2/rugged means I'd have to add another compilable dependency into the mix.

So apparently the maintainer actually gave up on ruby-git, and recommends using grit, that I've already started on using.
The library you mentioned may require other libraries, so I'd like to try using the pure ruby methods from grit again instead of trying to shell out - and then I can remove the dependency that created another issue.
