Dev Dependecies

  • A device that can connect to a serial port (e.g. Arduino Uno)
  • Sample Arduino Code for test device:
    int i = 0;

    void setup() {
        Serial.begin(9600);
    }

    void loop() {
        Serial.println(i);
        i++;
        delay(1000);
    }

Setting up the debugger

  2. Run python main.py --list-ports to find which port your device is connected to
  3. Open launch.json in .vscode
  4. Edit args to match the current port:

serial-monitor-cli's Issues

utf-8 decoding error

Problem:
'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 6: invalid start byte

Can be fixed by adding 'ignore' in print_to_console_json
data = data.decode('utf-8', 'ignore').strip()
