housekeeping's Issues

Prep for wooden partition wall

A ~1m deep wooden wall will be built around the glass wall facing into hall F (southwest wall) from the pillar beside the power pole to the wall on the right (northwest wall) after March 20, 2024.

Key Dates:

  • March 20: movers will come in an move the cabinets to new locations in the room (Christian will coordinate with them)

Tasks

  • Move shiny (Andrew's leaning trike), white steer assist prototype 1, and the white track bike (aerobars welded to frame) to the basement (may need to make some room there).
  • Place the two blue balance assist bikes, steer-by-wire bike on the floor or treadmill.
  • Hang the green/pink/black bike from the ceiling mount (where the track bike was). Make sure to secure it to the hooks with some extra rope, zip ties, or something.
  • Move one of the tables on the southwest wall on its side and behind the other table, leaving one computer station (which should be the one with the server mounted to it. Move extra monitors on top of the large cabinet where there is another extra monitor.
  • Move all items in the two gray cabinets (ones with doors) into cardboard boxes or simply remove the contents. These cabinets should be empty by March 19. They need to be empty for the movers to move them. Place cardboard boxes somewhere neatly.
  • Remove all items from wooden shelf and put in cardboard moving boxes.
  • Remove the bicycle hanger from the ceiling (one by the light switch that Andrew installed).
  • Tidy the lab as much as possible so that we make some space.
  • Find a temporary home for the wooden book shelf
  • Lock the bikes moved to the basement and bring the keys to the key box in the lab
  • Cover any senstive equipment when they are building the wall with the moving blankets
  • Ask the movers (Spie) to take the carbboard boxes back

Extract and organize useful parts, sensors, materials, etc. from boxes in the basement

We have several boxes in the basement that contain old, dormant projects. We need to extract the useful bits from these projects and trash the junk. Move sensors, motors, and reusable parts up to the lab or in the material racks.

  • skeleton: ask Frans van der Helm to look at it and see if he wants it, otherwise we could send it to a kringloop? or somewhere?
  • boxes associated with the pink/green instrumented bike: most should be put in a box in the project cabinet
  • BMX boxes: cull for useful stuff, trash the rest

Create a set of roles/tasks that people can be assigned to periodically

There are several tasks to keep the lab running well. If we make some specific roles and assign a lead to that role we can distribute responsibility and people may feel more empowered to do some things. Also with the lab manager position we assign that person to some ongoing tasks. Example tasks are:

  • Lab meeting MC
  • Battery management (keep charged, dispose of old, safety)
  • Managing the loaned item checkout sheet (and system)
  • Lab tidiness monitor
  • Maintain the matrix server
  • Inventory management

We should figure out what things should have a lead responsible person, make the list on the website with duties and put their name on the list.

Repair the treadmill controller

The treadmill controller is kaput. We need to try to repair it or make/find a replacement. We could start with the meetshop and see if they can fix it or maybe we can pay DEMO to fix it. Asking Jan van Frankenhuizen for suggestions on getting it fixed, maybe he can help or point us to a person in 3mE that can do this.

Piksi Multi & Piksi Multi Inertial End of Life

I just received an email that Swiftnav will no longer manufacture the Piksi. That's unfortunate news.

We need to download copies of all documentation, github repos, and information about the device in case they remove it from their website.

The EOL date is March 15, 2024.

I don't think they would remove the information, but we should copy it in case.

Find/make a parking spot for the bakfiets

The bakfiets is brand new and cost 3800 EUR so we'd like an indoor secure location for it. Could go in the basement but we current don't have space, some bikes would need to be remvoed first. We could hang it veritcally in the lab with the rear wheel on the ground if we come up with a nice hook for the front wheel. We could ask for more space somewhere in the building. Maybe there is a secure bike parking space somewhere that we could feel comfortable to lock it there.

  • Label the bakfiets with the paint pen with the lab name and Jason's contact info.
  • Record the serial number in our documentation.

Inventory and label equipment returned from Rado's project

Rado returned these items to me today:

  • ASUS ROG laptop + charger
  • extra hololens 2 travel case
  • hololens 2 + case and power adapter
  • box of HTC Vive cables: 2 link boxes, 4 base stations power adapters
  • 4 HTC base stations version 2
  • left and right valve index controllers
  • 2 wall mounts for the vive base stations
  • 2 heart rate monitors (wahoo and polar)
  • 2 vive trackers 2.0
  • VIVE wireless adapter pack
  • M.2 to PCI express bridge R3G (with big power supply and extra cables)
  • 2 monopods (for mounting cameras)
  • Tacx home trainer wheel mount
  • Sunweb's old sigma bike computer
  • box of sensors for giant bike (custom, not sure what they do)
  • cable ant+ to bluetooth bridge
  • samsung S9 mobile phone
  • HTC Vive Pro 2 headset

Create a system w/ person that ensures our rechargable batteries are regularly charged

Some issues that need solutions:

  • we have lost expensive e-bike batteries in the past because of neglecting to periodically charge them and no one is responsible for checking on these batteries
  • batteries can catch fire and we don't have them stored in a fire proof container
  • all e-bikes and batteries have an associated charger, but not all are labeled and associated with their respective battery

Figure out a way to sell and/or give away the bikes we don't need

I say sell because we do have some e-bikes that we could sell and make a bit of money back from. If we could someone sell the bikes and invoice someone from TU Delft so that they pay TU Delft, that would be ideal. Not quite sure how to do this otherwise. Maybe the University has a mechanism for selling our old equipment.

Order replacement load cells for the bumpem system

Marten broke one of the s shape load cells and we are using a replacement we had in the lab. We should order two more load cells to match the ones in the bumpem system (one for replacement and one for backup).

Set up the Optitrack Motion Capture System

We need to setup the system and learn how it works.

The permanent setup probably cannot happen until the construction is finished about expanding the lab.

We can still learn the system before then.
