guides's Issues

Security: KeePassX vs KeePassXC

First of all, thanks for the great guide on security.
The guide recommends KeePassX, but after some research I found out that its development has been slow for a few years now and the community has forked it to KeePassXC.
Knowing barely anything about password managers, I'd like to ask you: Which of the two would you consider the best option?
Additionally, the guide could mention KeePassXC (either as recommended or not recommended).
Cheers!

autovpn link is dead

just wanted to point that link to autovpn in Decentralized Networking section, at Darknet software, isn't working anymore

"containers" is ambiguous

Not sure if mayfrost is still around since I don't see much activity but on the virtualisation section, there is one alternative that just says "containers" without any link or much info. Does this refer to a specific software or is it just manually creating containers using Linux namespaces?

Why avoid BSD?

According to the security guide, I should avoid BSD. What's the reason behind that? I don't really know much about BSD, but from what I've read, OpenBSD is a very secure operating system (it is often said that it's even better than GNU/Linux). Care to elaborate the reasons why it's so bad?

Wrong order in file managers

In recent versions nnn will getting more bloated. I compared the source code of them and this is new order:

CLEX:
Files = 93
Lines = 29047

nnn:
Files = 83
Lines = 13236

rover:
Files = 7
Lines = 1894

So the final order will be like this:
CLEX -> nnn -> rover

typo in url

Hi - the link for "Essential Launcher" under ANDROID APPS has a few extra characters on the end (leading to a 404)

https://clemensbartz.de/essential-launcher/%5D
should be:
https://clemensbartz.de/essential-launcher/

https://github.com/mayfrost/guides/blob/master/ALTERNATIVES.md#android-apps

Launcher: OpenLauncher (8,3 MB) -> Catapult (4,7 MB) -> Lawnchair (3,1 MB) -> Paper Launch (2,8 MB) -> Launch Time (2,5 MB) -> Silverfish (1,5 MB) -> T-UI (1,2 MB) -> Search Based Launcher (622 KB) -> KISS (431 KB) -> Emerald Launcher (172 KB) -> Hayai Launcher (106 KB) -> Fast (76 KB) -> Essential Launcher (26 KB)

More alternatives

Some more alternatives:

  • Farbfeld: There are many implementations, including the first official one, but also my own implementation. To make screenshots, it includes a program called ff-xcapture for X window system, and ff-vccapture for Linux text mode.

  • For NNTP servers, there is also WendzelNNTPd, and I made my own called sqlnetnews (which is very small but uses SQLite).

  • Gemini: There is currently no mention of Gemini protocol and file format, at all.

  • Diagram making: One program I have used is Ghostscript; you can write program in PostScript which will draw the intended diagram, and then produce the output as PNG or PDF.
