Describe the bug
Recently I updated my packages and everything broke severely, could not open files. I started removing things to narrow down where the problem was. I arrived at a fresh install, fresh compile hard reset to master and it's still unusable.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
ahonnecke@contranym:~/src$ sudo apt-get install build-essential texinfo libx11-dev libxpm-dev libjpeg-dev libpng-dev libgif-dev libtiff-dev libgtk2.0-dev libncurses-dev gnutls-dev libgtk-3-dev git autoconf

Describe the bug
I have noticed that this error message started popping up from time to time when launched, most likely after a package update:
`Warning (initialization): An error occurred while loading ‘/home/giuliocentorame/.emacs.d/init.el’:
error: Keyword argument :init-fn not one of (:initial-input :height :occur :update-fn :unwind-fn :index-fn :sort-fn :format-fn :display-transformer-fn :more-chars :grep-p :exit-codes)
To ensure normal operation, you should investigate and remove the
cause of the error in your initialization file. Start Emacs with
the ‘--debug-init’ option to view a complete error backtrace. `
and Emacs doesn't launch the init.el at all.
--debug-init
reports the following:

Describe the bug
When I try to run lsp on a file, I get the following message
"lsp-execute-command is already defined as something else than a generic function"
and lsp doesn't start.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
M-x lsp
Expected behavior
Should automagically start lsp-mode in buffer
Versions (please complete the following information):
Additional context
I am able to get the expected behavior when I delete lsp and lsp-ui (along with its dependencies) and then reinstall via melpa. However, on startup, I return to the same error above.

Versions
git version 2.23.0.windows.1
After using the auto update package feature, company-box will not longer load. Once company-box does not load, the messages will include a statement that frame-local-0.0.1 is required. At that point, emacs won't perform any action successfully, not even exiting cleanly (at least on Mac Catalina).
Force Quit emacs. Edit init.el and comment out, init-company line, restart and manually 'package-install frame-local', uncomment init-company, save and restart.
Tracked down to this commit sebastiencs/company-box@bf0fb42 which added requirement 'frame-local'.

Describe the bug
I just wanted to try this config out, and I checked out the project in a directory that it's not my ~/.emacs.d
Trying to load the init.el
file manually fails though, probably simply because the local dir is not in the load-path
.
Describe the bug
Characters don't quite line up. This is easily visible in a dired
buffer.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
emacs
dired
Expected behavior
I expect pixel-perfect alignment of glyphs. I've never seen a monospaced font used in Emacs which didn't align.

I noticed the latest version has the undo tree log in the same folder of the file being edited.
The log file could be added to git repo easily with git add -A
. Sometimes it could potentially include sensitive information that user thought it had been deleted but would be stilled included in the undo tree as edit log.
I strongly advise to REMOVE this feature.
At least it is a huge concern for me, as I use your configure as main config and I use it to edit code or config files that would be used in production servers. I might add secret temporarily for local testing and then delete it before deployment. It could easily be leaked by this feature.
This is VERY dangerous.
Describe the bug
In a fresh installation, after restarting the program, I get the following error: dbus-call-method: Cannot open load file: No such file or directory, org-tempo
The dashboard is also editable and with ^L character despite having installed page-break-lines separately. No dashboard link is working.
To Reproduce
Installed the whole thing as per instructions. I skipped some dependencies for Java.
Expected behavior
Startup without error

I was wondering if there is any particular reason for not using https on elpa and removing the gnu-elpa-keyring-update?
Isn't this a potential security risk?

Additional context
Commenting out the snails package from init-search allows emacs to open.
Hello, trying Ctrl-c + Ctrl-f to start Tramp mode, but instead getting some reg-ex matching thing.
How do I start tramp mode (sorry if the question has been answered, I searched docs, but did not see anything except gssh config (which I do not need).
env: Emacs 27.2 / Windows 10
I just got started with M-EMACS. I'm mostly very happy with the config, but have made some minor changes for org-mode. I simply added these into the init.el, and for the most part they load fine.
;;; Org-mode preferences
(with-eval-after-load 'org
(add-hook 'org-mode-hook 'org-indent-mode)
(add-hook 'org-mode-hook 'visual-line-mode)
(add-hook 'org-mode-hook (lambda () (display-line-numbers-mode -1)))
(add-hook 'org-mode-hook (lambda () (setq org-hide-leading-stars nil))))
The only thing that's not working for me is org-hide-leading-stars. Even when I set it to nil as a global variable, every time I open an org-mode buffer I'm finding that it is changed back to t in a buffer-local variable.
Something seems to be overriding my (setq org-hide-leading-stars nil)
. Would love some input!
By the way, so far this is been the greatest Emacs config I've ever seen. Looking forward to spreading the word.
I like to experiment with different packages sometimes when tinkering around (e.g. multiple cursors)
It is inconvenient to delete the package after I am done with it
I think adding adding (use-package try) would be good. Perhaps in init-package.el?
-Let me know if you disagree, else I can make a PR for it.
I am not sure how/if you take feedback on the readme and/or configuration org file but I'm assuming it would help other newer users (like me) to mention that the dashboard agenda widget only shows agenda items tagged with DEADLINE or SCHEDULED, as mentioned in Dashboard Issue 226.
Hi, I'm trying to start using Emacs. Thank you for sharing your configuration!
I downloaded your .emacs.d
at HOME
, started emacs
, and closed.
Then I compiled .el
files under elisp
directory:
$ emacs -batch -f batch-byte-compile elisp/*.el
And started Emacs:
$ emacs -nw
But I got a lot of errors.
I guess I'm doing something wrong, or, is it too hard to use .elc
files if we split our init.el
to multiple files? (While I was editing my own init.el
, I got errors when I used use-package
in a file where use-package
is not bootstrapped). Thank you :)
Hi,
@MatthewZMD Thanks for sharing your nifty config:
Pulled this emacs config in voidlinux (rolling release) with gccemacs 28.0.50 and stable kernel 5.4* to test.
Tried to load the configuration with emacs --debug-init
There appears to be byte-compilation errors as of below with the first error, reading "setf seq-elt is already defined as something else than a generic function..."

Describe the bug
snippets/latex-mode has files that only differ in case:
Iff
iff
Long-implies
long-implies
Implies
implies
It seems that these files are treated differently by git and windows, and when both were modified, checking out either one would cause the other to be treated as 'modified' by git. (Windows filesystem is case insensitive from my understanding)
Regardless, it seems that these duplicates are unnecessary? if not, I can investigate the problem more.
I changed the mirror to tencent a few days ago.Today I git pull the code.I am annoyed by the merge conflicts.there ia a way that I can add custom config without modifying your config
It might be a good idea to use general for key binding.
It provides some nice features and has use-package
integration.

They cease at the third launch.
To Reproduce
Fresh-installed M-EMACS as per instructions.
Versions (please complete the following information):
Additional context
I am not sure it affects the functionality at all, but I was able to reproduce the same warnings twice on my workstation even after removing my .gitignore
(I thought I was doing some mess with a dotfile).
Describe the bug
The Garbage Collect When Emacs is Out of Focus
and
Avoid Garbage Collect When Using Minibuffer
code blocks are not decoupled from each other.
The first block is missing 2 closing parentheses and the second block has 2 additional closing parentheses.
My understanding is that the lower block is supposed to be inside emacs-startup-hook
.
But if someone copies just the lower or just the upper block they will face syntax error.
Code blocks in question:
Expected behavior
User can copy either of the code blocks and doesn't have double-check if all the required parenthesis are present or not.
Possible solutions
Under the section "Garbage Collection":
If you experience freezing, decrease this amount, if you increase stuttering, increase this amount.
Should be changed to:
If you experience freezing, decrease this amount, if you experience stuttering, increase this amount.

Describe the bug
The key binding "C-c p" is defined as projectile map command map, and also, as yaml-get-path-at-point
To Reproduce
Press "C-c p f"
As a result, 'f' is pressed
Expected behavior
The projectile-find-file should appear
I have my own branch with my custom keybinds. When I try to rebase or merge, there are many conflicts. Is there a way to circumvent this
I added (tool-bar-mode -1) in init-ui-config.el and it did not work
It is getting annoying. How to disable the pop out error message in configuration or use keyboard to close it?
