bike-route-map's Issues

Customize Route colors

I'm using the Leaflet plugin Leaflet-GPX to visualize the GPX data. I need to figure out how to customize the color of the route line (currently the default is blue).

  • Figure out how to add lines in different colors. [dev]
  • Figure out a color scheme for lines.
  • Assign colors to route categories.
  • Use color scheme to add lines based on their category. [dev]

Smooth GPX data.

The GPX data coming straight out of Strava looks a little choppy:

Research options for smoothing out the lines.

Make route selectable

  • On hover - highlight route.
  • On click/touch - route stays highlighted and route information pops up.
  • Additional visual effects - add a dropshadow for the hover/click effect.
  • Refactoring - modified gpx.js in order to implement hover effect and popups. consider how this can be expanded. Fork leaflet-gpx and maintain mods in a repository. Turn into a GitHub page and link to the file from there. Create a separate Cloud9 workspace or no?

Business Model

Have the routes start at bicycle shops so it is specifically a bike-oriented experience. Market the apps to bicycle shops as a resource.

Start/Stop GPS data at landmarks or major intersections

This can turn into a security issue if sensitive locations are being used as the starting/stopping points in the data. We should define a standard for the routes we map - for example, that they have to stop/start at landmarks or major intersections.

Create custom Mapbox Style

Currently using a style I was experimenting with. It highlights the LA freeways, which is not what we want for this map.

Ideas for map features to focus on? Use a terrain layer?

Fork leaflet-gpx.js and maintain separately
