mbp-ubuntu-kernel's Issues

applesmc not loaded

I’m running the iso on a mbp 16.1 with the T2 chip.

I don’t see the applesmc module loaded in lsmod

However if I run modinfo applesmc I see this output:

name: applesmc
filename: (builtin)
license: GPL v2
file: drivers/hwmon/applesmc
description: Apple SMC
author: Paul Pawlowski
author: Nicolas Boichat

I added applesmc to /etc/modules-load/modules.conf but the module still won’t load.

My overall goal is to find a way to use mbpfan to boost my fans to maximum rpm to keep my mbp from getting too hot, which requires applesmc to be installed. Is there a way to do that with the applesmc driver that is already built into the iso?

packages dependencies

Hey Marcos, what packages do your two kernel packages depend on?

I believe dkms and initramfs-tools are a must but I'm getting some warning messages mentioning apt-utils which sounds like I can ignore them.

So, besides dkms and initram-tools, anything else?

Thunderbolt sees device doesn't load drives

When I plug in two different thunderbolt enclosures they show up in boltctl list and dmesg shows that it recognizes the thunderbolt device, however the drives don't actually show up. An older version of Ubuntu 20.04 I had experimented with running kernel 5.3 recognizes the thunderbolt device and for one loads sdX devices and the other the proper nvmenX device. I'm not really sure what the difference is. I can't see any real kernel module differences from that older 5.3 and the 5.7.19 kernel I'm using from here.

Double checking my releases naming understanding

Is this, my releases naming understanding, correct:

  1. for releases 5.8.X: version "mbp" includes all patches and "mbp-alt" doesn't
  2. for releases 5.7.X: version "mbp-alt" includes all patches and "mbp" doesn't

successful dkms-less kernels v5.8 and v 5.9

@marcosfad: opened yesterday a pull request for kernel v5.8.18 but today I made v5.9.8 work too.

So, please accept my pull request for 5.8 and/or checkout my zappacor/macbook-pro-16_2-linux-kernel repo for v5.9.8 (and most probably for any future v5.9.x).

I didn't include the Debian packaging part that you include in your build script but I did adapt your Debian patches too.

So, you should clone my zappacor-patches-* files and folders, my zappacor-downloads folder and then copy and edit my zappacor-build.sh script so it can run on your herokuapp and create the .deb files.

I'll for sure go to your repo and just download them for the next v5.9 releases! ;-)

One last comment: the zappacor-patches-apple_bce-0.1.patch one-liner patch I wrote just adds a PCI modalias to the BCE driver. By doing so, we don't need to manually issue any modprobe command anymore as it'll get automatically loaded by the kernel on boot when booting on a Mac with the T2.

Thanks man!,
zappacor

wifi doesn't work

First of all, thank you for your hard work.
We apologize for the poor English.
I am a Korean and I tried to install Ubuntu by purchasing a 16-inch MacBook.
So if you give it the iso you gave it, it will stop on boot.
So after installing Ubuntu 20.04, use your keyboard, t2, trackpad patch
The patch has been completed.
But wifi is not installed.

 | | | | | "RequestedFiles" = ({"Firmware" = "C-4364__s-B3 / bali.trx", "TxCap" = "C-4364__s-B3 / bali-X3.txcb", "Regulatory" = "C-4364__s-B3 /bali-X3.clmb","NVRAM"="C-4364__s-B3/P-bali-X3_M-HRPN_V-m__m-7.9.txt "})

This is the wifi information of my MacBook. It comes out as a bali, but wifi does not work even if you try everything.
Do you know anything about this?

I am getting the following error How do I fix it ?

Testing on a 16,2

Hi guys, tested both 5.8.5-mbp-alt and 5.8.5-mbp on a 16,2.
The keyboard (only thing I'm interested in, at least for now) doesn't work.
Willing to help so lemme know if there is anything I can do or try.
