Second Project - Web Development 101

This is the second project that developed the Odin Project curriculum of the Web Development 101 course. This project consists in emulating the appearance of the best known search engine on the Internet: Google. Using only HTML5 and CSS technologies.

Applied knowledge:

  • In HTML - Basic tags: doctype, html, head, body, table, div, header, nav, article, aside, footer, ul, li, a, h1-h6, p, forms, etc.

  • In CSS: flex-box, class selectors, borders, buttons, colors, box-model, pseudo-clases, pseudo-elements, font styles, backgrounds styles, measurement units, borders, etc.

  • Use of google development tool

Skills obtained:

  • HTML5
  • CSS
  • Git & Github workflow

Other skills:

  • Two ways to move a div around on the page
  • Stick a div onto the bottom or top of the page
  • Identify the background color of an existing webpage
  • Grab the URL for an image from an existing webpage
  • Center an element horizontally
  • Identify three ways you can include your CSS styles in a page
  • Understand how to use classes and ids to target CSS at specific elements on the page
  • Build a very basic form (even if it doesn’t “go” anywhere)

Drawbacks

I had problems installing linux (xubuntu distribution), my computer has Windows, and it was not successful to convert to a dual system (in two attempts).

Choose to virtualize linux with VMWare, after an error updating the operating system, everything ran perfectly.
