introducing-python's Issues

archive.py missing from the repository

Substitute example for the Youtube application is missing from the repository. Attached is the missing example program; works as described in the book. (Note: file extension changed from .py to .txt in order to get around the github file extension restrictions.)

archive.txt

There is no "substantial code example" (Preface | page XXVII) for Chapter 16 here

All that I have found is the villains.csv file. Further, I believe that there is an error in the code on page 306, upper half that is supposed to produce the villains.csv file. I get a villains.txt file that looks exactly like the .csv file.

This will not work with the Pandas Example 16-2 later on in the book.

Also, the other examples are plainly shown to be written in the immediate mode, while this example does not. Was this a typo/editing error or is it supposed to be a python script but not completely documented as such?

macOS Big Sur 11.6. Python 3.8.9.

YouTube API is old

YouTube API is old. So the source code which is related to YouTube API doesn't work (youtube.py and youtube2.py).

  • intro/youtube2.py
import requests
url = "https://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/standardfeeds/top_rated?alt=json"
response = requests.get(url)
data = response.json()
for video in data['feed']['entry'][0:6]:
    print(video['title']['$t'])
