actions-find-and-replace-string's Introduction

Find and replace strings

This action executes find-and-replace on a given string (hint: use ${{ github.ref }} to get your branch name and apply this on it for use in another action).

Inputs

source

Required The source string to apply this action to

find

Required The text you want to search for within the branch name (eg. ref/heads/)

replace

Required The text you want to replace (eg. head-, ``, root_)

replaceAll

Optional Should replace all occurrences? (only 'true' string will be interpreted positive)

Outputs

value

The new value containing the found-and-replaced string.

Example usage

uses: mad9000/actions-find-and-replace-string@5
with:
source: ${{ github.ref }} # this translates to ref/heads/main on the main branch, but can be any arbitrary string
find: 'ref/heads/' # we want to remove ref/heads/ from source
replace: '' # and replace it with a blank string (ie. removing it)

This will output main.

Check out .github/workflows/main.yml for more examples

actions-find-and-replace-string's Issues

Multiple occurances not replaced

I've tried to replace slashes in branch name like feature/stage/my-branch and second slash symbol was not replaced.
I'm not sure about options to repeat replacing step until all symbols are not replaced, so probably it will be better to handle it in your code.

bug: strips spaces at edges

I need to replace a character with --tag but the result strips, eg:

input a,b,c
output a--tagb--tagc
desired a --tag b --tag c

using actions-find-and-replace-string to escape double quotes

I need to stuff the github.event.issue.title into a GraphQL query to Monday.com. The column_value is the github.event.issue.title which can contain double-quotes, that mess up the query. WHat's the proper way to do this?

      - id: title
        uses: mad9000/actions-find-and-replace-string@2
        with:
          source: ${{ github.event.issue.title }}
          find: '"'
          replace: '\\\"'

Hello,
The workflow used to work fine, however recently I got this error

Run mad9000/actions-find-and-replace-string@3

    find: release_v_
