There's no cost to upgrading it or maintaining it.

If you don't have any primitives or any subspecies, your pops just start dying off every couple years which is impossible to maintain in the early game.

Based on the last game, I am not able to increase my storage for resources through the repeatable tech of +5k or the kugelblitz megastructure. I built 4 of them and stayed at the sam3 92k max storage.

In single player (assuming multiplayer as well), the Frame World origin considerably slows down the game compared to another robot origin or organic origin start. The overhead to maintain it may not be worth keeping it in game for late game performance.
