The software is built using Cycling74s 'Max' environment and is licensed under the MPL licence (see LICENCE file), but makes use of third party elements that have their own terms and conditions. See the Manuals, in the 'Manuals' folder for full instructions on installing, third party dependencies and a full description of the system. See the Pop Up Play website for details on the project.

NB - Open the 'launcher.maxpat' file, this will set a temporary search path and find all the media and subpatches

Version 1 was OpenNI based and built for Mac and Windows, but since Apple aquired OpenNI, the skeletal tracking module (NITE) is no longer legal to use. Current version is based on MS Kinect libraries, exposed by the dp.kinect object https://hidale.com/product-category/software/ (which has its own terms and conditions inside the dp.kinect folder and requires a purchased registration file to function). Therefore, full functionality of the software is currently only supported by Windows in a legally compliant way, but the OpenNI elements and Mac functionality remain in case an alternative to NITE is found.

Manual needs more description of cutout system

nominal sizes etc

Feature Request: Rotate dial on computer controls

currently visual elements can be rotated from the iPad only, would be nice to have a dial or something on the computer controls to replace the rotate gesture on an iPad.

Manual needs more description of puppet system

Puppet system description could do with fleshing out, sizes of files explored etc, how best to implement a puppet, making use of templates etc

Lighting system iPad controls swatch RGB control bug

Swatch on iPad controls has a slight bug that means you may have inconsistencies if swapping between computer and iPad controls regularly

Scaling when changing a cutout from tracked to untracked and vv

When choosing to track or untracked a cutout overlay item, the scale should preferably stay the same

Feature Request: In app help boxes and hints

Lighting system bug with saving

Saving files should ask where you want to put them, currently they go straight in the route folder and you have to move them

Feature Request: Microphone effects

Currently blank space left for audio effects on the microphone input

Feature Request: OSC support

Would be nice if every control had an OSC receiver so some generic OSC controls could be built and we no longer rely on an iPad and the MIRA app

dp.kinect2 register tool

Currently only a dp.kinect v1 tool for registering, though through the website you can get instructions to do it yourself: https://hidale.com/shop/dp-kinect2/

Feature Request: Clear all cutouts

Would be nice for a simple button to turn of all cutouts rather than having to do individually.

Good idea to restrict, or visualise layer level

Visual element layer controls currently infinite and no idea where something is in the order, be good to visualise this and/or restrict

Kinect settings window could do with some work

Appearance needs standardising to the rest of the system, some more features could be added, elevation control of the camera etc.

Feature Request: lighting fades

Would be nice if lighting faded like the visuals fade between linked scenes

Puppet not resizing for child

Feature Request: Optimisation of video system, HAP support?

Video system could be optimised for efficiency some more (UYVY, HAP etc.)

Feature Request: Restrict view of kinect

Some kind of culling without losing skeletal tracking for small spaces

Feature Request: Media library linking not require same files

Currently the media library links by having the same amount of files in the same order in each folder (vis, audio and lighting backgrounds). If the order is out or there is a missing file, then linking does not work for all the others. It would be better if they just looked for a file of the same name and if it wasn't there then load silence, black visual or blank lighting.
