PCB based Dual Resonance Solid State Tesla Coil Design

Hi Niklas, i'm Niklas! :)
i have quite a lot of experience from tesla coils i made in the past and sometimes i had the exact same problem with my coils. i think adding a ground plane on the bottom of the coil to make a better earthing system might help you to solve this issue and improve the overall stability of the system.
the capacitor should be around 100nF and rated for 200V or more. i do this in both big and small coils and usually it results in better stability of the feedback system.
another thing i thought of is that the diodes on the feedback system have not enough capacitors near them so when you touch the sparks and the current coming from the secondary coil increases it may cause a big ripple voltage on the 5V rail (maybe you could probe this with an oscilloscope).
a solution to this might be to completely isolate the feedback system from the secondary coil with a current transformer or an antenna (not suggested because usually makes things really unstable) or you could just add bigger bypass capacitors near the diodes and a capacitor and bigger resistor in series to the secondary coil like in the image below.
the 100 femto farad capacitor is a bit too low to simulate the resonant parasitic capacitance your coil creates i think but i used it to make a quick simulation at your coils' working frequency.
I hope you'll solve this in the next version of the coil ;)
Hi! I wanted to start building this project, but i have a bit of confusion around PCBs.
For what i've understood from hackaday project logs, i'll need one bottom PCB that contains the circuit and two coil PCBs. However, on the repo there are 4 gerbers for the coils. Which ones are used?
The gerbers for the circuit PCB are not included, right?
Hi, i have trouble to get flyback to work, i got almost zero voltage on 50v side. I designed my own pcb, with some cosmetic changes. If i feed it from anotther power supply it works nice :)
I tried to measure PWM on pin29 (PA8) and got 0 volts, and no duty cycle.
I also tried looking in code, but i cant get it open as project in stm cube ide...,
I ordered the parts on digikey and tried to replace the LCSC-Components.
http://www.digikey.de/short/p1dcp2
I was not able to find a replacement for L1 - L3
Do you think this might work although it is only rated for 1.15A instead of 3A? I never worked with Inductrs before and have no idea what to look for.

As an alternative I ordered these. They have only 55mOhm but 3.3A.

I'm an getting exited! :) Hope to see you in Leipzig.
I'm 100% a novice when it comes to electrical engineering. I tinker and that's about it. I wanted to make this as easy as possibly for someone to just order the boards and have manufacturer add the parts they have.
I wanted to verify these are the correct components before continuing. If someone could kindly check the parts (c####'s under JLCPCB column) in file against https://jlcpcb.com/parts
https://mega.nz/file/o0YSgYpB#fENDKCODiazcReRTNdH0xMzTBRH5GjCjn3kJuT1y4Zk (csv file)
After getting this completed, going to completed the proper BOM that JLCPCB requires and make a pull requested.
Hi,
I don't think the USB shield should be connected directly to ground. I use the scheme you can see in this circuit diagram:
https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/schematic-files/CP2102N-MiniEK-schematic.pdf
Looking forward to building this, though I will wait to hear how it goes with 1.6 having read #3
BTW, if you have spare PCBs you wouldn't mind selling, let me know!
What is JP2 for?
Hey Niklas,
I'm trying to compile a BOM with part numbers to make ordering parts for this project easy (someone can just drop a csv into digikey and have a full cart with every part in a matter of seconds).
I have everything with the exception of the USB-C connector you used, do you happen to know the manufacturer part number for this?
Thanks and awesome project!
