No video devices found after upgrading to catalina (OSX 10.15) about lolcommits HOT 7 CLOSED

OK, can either/both of you try this pre-release candidate on Catalina with:

sudo gem install lolcommits --version=0.16.0.pre1

This works for me in a Catalina VM. If I get reports this works for you, I'll prep a real 0.16.0 release and close this issue.

0.16.0.pre1 includes new imagesnap and videosnap binaries, bundled with new Info.plistfiles that include the (now required) NSCameraUsageDescription entry.

Sad day indeed, I'm having the same issue.

tried supplying the various names found in: system_profiler SPCameraDataType to LOLCOMMITS_DEVICE

which returned a few possible options of ids and names and such; none of which worked.

So I haven't had time to look into this yet, and I currently don't have a machine capable of running Catalina. I will try to grab a beta download and install it in a VM to debug further.

#396 is related and may fix the issue, but I can't verify until I have a working copy of Catalina.
